I wonder how many said that when Microsoft announced Windows 7?

    And not only Windows 7.

12 years later it is often forgotten that when XP was introduced it was far from being an overwhelming success. It was in fact much criticized by industry "experts", some of whom no doubt expected it to be a flop. See this article by Ed Bott for more:

Although I plan of staying with Win 7 until sometime in 2019, I'm also looking forward to Win 9 just to see if M$ comes to their senses and realize that their "vision" isn't what people want or need. That would give me hope that M$ will have a decent OS by the time I'm ready to leave Win 7.

Windows 9 kind of lit a torch of hope for me. Maybe Win9 will be the OS I'll migrate AND recommand to people around. With the Start Menu comeback and if they redesign it, I just hope that they won't screw it up.
