it isn't rocket science on the front of the PC where you can see it. But if you have to plug something in on the back of the PC without pulling the PC all the way out (due to cables etc.) and many USB ports are taken you have to:
- find the USB port by feeling with your fingers. Mind the free one may be in between USB plugs that are taken
- turn it around till it fits

not that we couldn't plug a USB plug in eventually... but why make it more complicated than it has to?

And how many times does one have to plug in a USB cable into a rear port anyway? While we're at it, what about DVI, Displayport, HDMI, etc.? What about the poor souls still using PS/2? Now that one is a nightmare since you have 360 of choices. I swear some people would still kick if hung with a new rope.

Not often, but the few times I remember because they sucked. this isn't an excuse to make it more complicated than needed.
This is like me saying you can a car only needs an oil change once a year, design the oil screw as complicated as possible.

There's no excuse for bad design. You might pick up a text on the subject of useability.

And you are so clever you can anticipate future hardware design changes and design USB ports in a way that future changes in USB plug and port standards will be unnecessary? If so, do so, otherwise build a bridge and get over it. You are making a mountain out of a molehill.

I just look for the USB Logo on the Plug. 9 times out of ten if you have the logo side up the plug will go in without having to flip it over. You'll always run into exception, like on some laptops, that's life.

As has already been stated ... it's hard to see the proper orientation. Dim lighting, limited access to the back of a desktop, differing socket orientations, aging eyesight ... all of these things contribute to difficulty with these plugs.

So ... they now have (or soon will have) a reversible plug? If so, problem solved. Nice.

Yeesh! It must really suck to be you if you have so much trouble with them. I'm handicapped, pushing 65, and have to wear trifocals and task specific glasses to be able to see yet, somehow, it's just not an issue for me. I have no problems feeling my way in most of the time and, the rare times I do have a problem, a flashlight and a mirror takes care of it. Life isn't perfect so deal with it. It will take years, if not decades, before the new type connector replaces all the old ones so you still have a life of misery ahead of you if you don't buck up and get over this.

My, my, listen to the pot calling the kettle black. Who was it who started complaining about present USB connectors being irreversible? You have run out of valid arguments so you are resorting to petty insults (and not just in this thread)?
