    Your OneDrive just got bigger

We recently announced that we’d be giving you more OneDrive space for everything in your life and work. We have started rolling out the increased storage today, and you should see the additional space reflected in your account soon.

New and existing personal OneDrive accounts will come with:

Also, people who use OneDrive for Business now have a 1 TB quota (up from 25 GB).

To provide all this extra storage, we added another 10 petabytes of capacity to OneDrive. Thanks Azure!

If you already have OneDrive at home or at work, then you are all set. The changes have automatically been applied to your account. Otherwise, it’s easy to sign up for a free account at onedrive.com.

I have never used cloud storage except for temporary DropBox to upload images to "those" forums.
Could OneDrive be a substitute for DropBox etc ?

I still have my grandfathered 25 or 27gb (I don't remember which one it is) for free. They shouldn't have shrunk it in the first place.

Hi GrayGhost. Read Brinks signature. There is no such thing as a dumb question. Plenty of people go away without knowing as they feared to ask.
More than a substitute you can store a ton of stuff for less money. It is good not to put all your eggs in one basket. I use both. The only limit is the size of the data file. I don't know of any service that allows something like a Windows ISO file.

That and a free Onedrive account does not have any adds
It also allows uploading and sharing the original size files compressing is an option though,

But yes the grandfathered Hotmail accounts got a free 25 gigs which is about 23 gigs more than I'll ever use,
    Cheers.

Thanks Indianatone :) and ThrashZone :)

When I get some spare time we will be investing in NAS ... I have been looking on and off for >12 months. (Time!)
Some of my work is commercially significant so the cloud is out of bounds by contract agreement.
I only see the cloud as maybe convenient when traveling.

Is OneDrive a closed storage, only accessible by me?

GrayGhost2 Cloud storage to my understanding is only accessible to you or others you authorize. Who really know when your storage is not under your watchful eye. It's is on someone else computer somewhere in the world. It could be hacked and you might never even know.

    Hi Layback Bear :)
I was only enquiring about OneDrive for DropBox type image files.

    Slightly off topic ...
... my other-half is photo mad (on her rig) so I suggested she maybe use OneDrive to share photos with our kids.
... I cannot see the point of Facebook. We visit our friends in the flesh and eyeball them.

I totally agree with you ... as far as I am concerned the cloud is only secure until someone hacks it
... and I cannot believe the keyboard-kiddies are safely tucked up in bed at night reading Cinderella.
That is why all my critical machines are stand alone, no web connection.

Until today I had never heard of OneDrive (then discovered it was "SkyDrive") ... now renamed

    Thank you for your concerns,
    Regards

    Russell :)

New and existing personal OneDrive accounts will come with:
15 GB of free storage (up from 7 GB)
1 TB of additional OneDrive storage with an Office 365 Home/Personal/University subscription (up from 20 GB)
The option to buy additional storage at much lower prices, starting at 100 GB for $1.99 per month
Well, that just made Office 365 way more worth it.
