Despite what many will have you believe, nothing bad is going to happen to your computer on October 31st. Your Windows 7 machine will boot just fine and continue to receive timely updates from Microsoft. So what exactly is this October 31st hoopla all about?

On October 31st, Microsoft will stop providing its hardware partners (HP, Dell, Samsung, Lenovo etc) copies of Windows 7 (all popular consumer editions). This isnít something you, as a consumer, should be concerned about. This concerns OEMs, who will have to ship their computers with either Windows 8, 8.1, 8.1 Update, or some other operating system.

Good, I am using an HP Desktop that originally came with a Vista OS and installed a retail version of Windows 7. Most OEM users themselves don't like OEM OSs because it comes bundled with crappywares that reduces your computer's horsepower.

I'm a builder who likes to 'roll their own' , though I realise now I shoulda selected Professional but was
curious to see what extra features were in "Ultimate" for this build, which after I begin the next project build for myself will either be 7Pro or 10 [maybe]. Then this machine will be downgraded to a Home Theatre
PC, with either nLited XP or vLited 7 , to reduce the boot time primarily during a recording when the local
utility switches something and the UPS fails to cover [it happens] to lose only a few seconds of show.
