You are probably going to have to try again when it is less busy. Try downloading the ISO file instead.

just download the iso and load it in a vm
Doing it as we speak. :)

I read that the VM needs to be set up as Windows 8.1

You are correct good sir. And make sure (obviously) that you choose the right bit type as well.

vmware player for example, tell it its windows 8.1 x64 for the x64 preview. Then it will install and run fine.

I installed it in VMware Player as a Windows 8 version and it installed without any problems.

That is Kari's taskbar on the left where he prefers it. :)
I also like the task bar on the left of the screen. It takes up less screen vertical height that way and I can leave it up permanently which is far more convenient that a disappearing taskbar.

Can the task bar width (or height, depending on where one puts it) be adjusted?
Yes you unlock the taskbar and then drag it to how big you want them lock it again.
    Thank you!

I really like this, will replace Windows 8.1 on all my rigs except one which I leave for possible Win 8 tutorial writing and such.

    Thank you Microsoft :).
Wow Kari that is one huge side bar can it be reduced width wise ?
That is Kari's taskbar on the left where he prefers it. :)
Correct Indianatone. I prefer the taskbar at left, small buttons, not combined, it gives me more vertical space for browsers and apps and a clear view of what I have open. It can be resized exactly as a horizontal taskbar. That screenshot showed taskbar quite wide and with big buttons because I had taken the screenshot just after arriving to Ten desktop first time and had not yet modified it.

An extract of a Windows 8.1 laptop's desktop at the moment to show what I mean:

My first Windows 10 tutorial, not yet published but should already be visible for registered members: User Profiles - Relocate Users Folder to Another Drive
It needs admin approval before it can be viewed. Sorry, in my vanity I was too hasty .
