Kari I'm not complaining just trying to understand. So far I'm not doing a good job of understanding but that is okay. I don't have to understand.

I'm just saying that it really is funny that when Microsoft announces that Windows 10 will be free, these comments start. Not possible to say anything about the price so let's start with this, how odd it is that also a few pirates might get a free copy. Anything to show how badly MS is doing it.

Thanks Kari for the update from Microsoft.

I still don't understand why Microsoft would want a bunch of Non-Genuine Windows 10 all around the world. Some how this strategy is not sinking into my 3 brain cells.

To me all it is telling people using counterfeit Windows 7 that Microsoft don't care if they use counterfeit copies. Hell Microsoft likes counterfeit copies so much they are going to give up a new counterfeit copy of Windows 10.

    Non-Genuine = counterfeit.
My guess, I repeat, guess is that M$ is trying to lure people, even those with pirated Windows, away from Windows versions earlier than 10 in order to set them on the path to a future walled garden à la Apple.

It could be that Microsoft is just being a little beneficial in improving the overall security on the internet. Yes their Windows will remain not genuine so may be if they can buy apps (programs) from the store the non genuine users pay more and may be if you have a genuine licence it cost you less? I can see it making stuff more secure. May be the version of 10 they get is the basic version and they are not allowed to change some features such as the search engine etc. I am sure that M$ just want as many customers in the store so the can charge them. May be this is how they are going to give 7 users what we want.....Windows 7 Pack...includes Aero and Windows 7 mode that turns your 10 OS into a 7 clone but with all the under the hood fixes...yours for $25.....

Nope, not sarcasm. I'm not saying what you said is true or not but it is food for thought.

The last time I checked, Hell (a wide spot on US93 in AZ) wasn't frozen over.

It just seem strange when the whole legal computing world is fighting counterfeiting, Microsoft puts their approval stamp on counterfeit Windows operating system. I don't care how one paints that picture, it's a blur to me.

Maybe counterfeit Microsoft Office will be next.

In my opinion that is totally wrong interpreted. Microsoft does not approve the pirates now any more than before. It's in my opinion just as simple as I said in my previous posts: the upgrade process is such that it unfortunately might make it possible for some pirates to get the Ten free.

I have enormous problems in understanding this debate. What on earth is Microsoft doing wrong by giving the Windows free? Which is more important from the consumer's point of view, making the upgrade so secure and difficult that for 100% sure no pirated Seven or Eight could be upgraded, or make the upgrade process extremely easy which includes the risk that some pirates might get it, too?

This really is a funny world. When Windows Vista, Seven and Eight were launched they were accused of being too expensive, especially if you needed for instance language packs in Vista and Seven so you needed to buy Ultimate or RDC host feature in Eight meaning you needed to get Pro. Now the Ten will be free and again we are having this debate.
