Whoa! Methinks you just hit the head on the nail (or something like that). Allowing users with illegal copies of Windows 7 to get a free upgrade could go along ways toward ensuring Win 10 doesn't get the dismal numbers Win 8.x garnered.

I really don't see how any of this Microsoft foolishness is any good for legal users.
No doubt the position will be the same as some people claim about XP:
"Anyone using an old OS is irresponsible as they are actually (unknowingly) part of a massive botnet."

It occurs to me that once on 10, there will be more mechanisms to detect, and disable pirated versions. Also, everyone posts about how smart the pirates are, and how they will get around restrictions on 10 too. But I think the vast majority of USERS of pirated OS are not the geniuses who hacked them, but cheap schmucks who just downloaded them off the web. If MS kills their new Windows 10, they will have to go looking for hacked versions the same as before. I see a tempest in a teapot, I don't think MS is aiding and abetting pirates. They want them on 10, they will have more control that way, and they can deal with them in time. But what do I know...

My windows legal or illegal; genuine or non-genuine; counterfeit or not-counterfeit, Store is my destination.

If my target is to maximize the sales via store, I can do it as I want.

At least it will bring the user to store. Sometimes that is enough.
