Microsoft: No Ultimate Extras for Windows 7

Microsoft: No Ultimate Extras for Windows 7

    Posted: 07 Feb 2009
The Ultimate Extras embarrassment has been quite an issue since the launch of Vista, and while Microsoft did apologize and things started to get better in 2008, the fact remains that the company wasn't delivering as promised. Many users went as far as saying that Ultimate was useless because Ultimate Extras weren't plentiful, but of course those who bought Ultimate didn't buy them for the extras. And Microsoft is hoping those users will make the same decision for Windows 7 Ultimate, which won't be getting the feature when it's released. Here's the quote that shows Microsoft has given up (it almost slipped through our fingers after all this Windows 7 SKU news):
Our new approach to planning and building Windows doesn't have the capacity to continue to deliver features outside the regular release cycle. While our core development team is focused on building the next release, our sustained engineering team is focused on updates to existing features. As a result we don't plan to create Ultimate Extras.

Good. i really never saw the value of getting extra bonuses such as Texas Hold'em. Tinker or Dreamscene. They should have just had those available to all of the versions from the beginning, or even not at all. Would anyone really have cared?

They should have been available for all versions from the beginning, the question now is are they going to make them available for everyone or restrict dreamscene and the others to Vista only ( I hope not because I loved dreamscene )

I never really liked using Dreamscene since it always seemed to just be an unnecessary system hog, but they sure were pretty to look at.

Dreamscene was a none starter for me as it doesn't support my set up of two cards and 4 monitors

I agree that all the so called ultimate extras should have been available on all versions of Vista (OK maybe not basic) as I think dreamscene would have added to the WOW factor for Joe public.

    Hi steven,

I'm sure I remember a post in the early days of this forum - stating that dreamscene was working with one of the early pre-beta builds, 6801 i think, you may want to have a search around if anyone can get it working I'm sure you can.

    Oh Look here it is

I thought that Dreamscenes was only available in the Ultimate versions of Vista so that let me out, which is a pity as I like the bells and whistles

The Extras in Windows Vista Ultimate, to me, was just a marketing scheme. I can't even remember the last time I turned Dreamscene on. as said in a pervious post. its a system hog. most of the people out there don't use the extras. but it was just another was for M$ to make more money.
