Okay the simple Layback Bear is back.
Windows 7 Updates should be just that; Windows 7 Updates to improve Windows 7; not to be setting things up for Windows 10.

OK, so the consensus here seems to be that Windows Update (the part of the Windows designed to help user to keep Windows up to date) in Windows 7 (a legacy OS with mainstream support already ended) should not help user in possible later transition to the next generation Windows and in this way keep user up to date?
Interesting point of view.

I think people are concerned about getting 'pop -ups' on their screen, or via windows 7 (and 8 ? ) action centre pop ups.
If it allows you to say 'i have read this nag me no more about windows 10 button' then that's fine but if it is a continued pop up that you cannot permanently dismiss then that's another.

An interesting point of view, but that is not how it works. MS is shaking in their boots that Wi10 will have a similar acceptance as W8 and they are doing everything that this does not happen. Publicity for a new product is their good right, but they should not do it on my system. It is just another PUP.
There is absolutely no technical reason for those KBs. It is all a marketing matter. And that does not qualify for IMORTANT updates in my book.
Guys, I finally figured it out... The only reason why these recommended updates appear as "important" (except for the very very sneaky one that starts with KB299...) is b/c you guys asked for them!
That's right, MS did not force you to install them with very vague descriptions. You guys inadvertently did!
Just uncheck "give me recommended updates the same way I receive important updates" in update settings and you'll be fine...
I agree with WHS. If these "updates" were truly needed to prepare our legacy systems for possible upgrade to W10, why do we "need" incrementals? If I want to upgrade to W10 (which I don't), give me an Upgrade Pack that will do the preparation in one fell swoop when I request it. Don't troll the crap out of my W7 system.
