Windows 7, Vista SP1/SP2, XP SP3 – the Windows Cocktail Microsoft is brewing a Windows cocktail bound to be hard to swallow, either shaken or just stirred. The Redmond company's consistent headway in the development process of Windows 7 is forcing customers to consider a scenario where multiple possibilities weigh in balance. All because, Widows 7, Windows Vista Service Pack 1/SP2 and Windows XP (now with SP3) will be available on the market concomitantly. Albeit upgrading to Windows 7 might look like the easy way out, sticking with XP or with Vista, or migrating to Vista now, ahead of Win 7, are also valid answers. Microsoft is of course not much help, as it risks negatively affecting sales of the operating system, given the current context of the Windows client lifecycle.

they got a real pickle in their hands now...
they will have to support 3 consumer Os (since before they have when xp came out the still supported i believe 2000 and 98se/ME)
2000 was mainly a business OS while 98se/ME was a consumer OS
but xp vista and 7...
and until 2014?
wow maybe when Windows 8 comes out?... | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Tx2500z Tablet Pc/Homemade Server OS Windows 7 Ult x64(x2), HomePrem x32(x4), Server 08 (+VM), 08 R2 (VM) , SuSe 11.2 (VM), XP 32 (VM) CPU Turion X2 ultra (oh well came with laptop)/P4 @3.2 (yes P4) Motherboard IDK HP Motherboard / Intel DG965SS Memory OCZ Dual Channel 4GB kit/ 1gb Dual Channel Graphics Card HD 3200 graphics /GMA x3100 (yay for intergrated!!) Thanks for that post, however I wish that MS would make up their mind about XP support.
The last I heard (straight from MS) was that support ends May 2009. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Self build OS Windows 7 Ultimate x64 CPU AMD Phenom II x4 Motherboard Gigabyte 880 Memory 8GB Graphics Card NVIDIA GeForce HD Sound Card Realtek HD Audio Screen Resolution 1920 x 1080 PSU Thermalake 550w Case XCase Hard Drives 2 x 1TB Internet Speed 8MB |

that's for mainstream support echandra...
paid support ends until april 8, 2014
what ms wants to do is let companies have enough time to migrate to 7 (or even 8?)
while getting paid in the process.. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Tx2500z Tablet Pc/Homemade Server OS Windows 7 Ult x64(x2), HomePrem x32(x4), Server 08 (+VM), 08 R2 (VM) , SuSe 11.2 (VM), XP 32 (VM) CPU Turion X2 ultra (oh well came with laptop)/P4 @3.2 (yes P4) Motherboard IDK HP Motherboard / Intel DG965SS Memory OCZ Dual Channel 4GB kit/ 1gb Dual Channel Graphics Card HD 3200 graphics /GMA x3100 (yay for intergrated!!)
