I was able to get Windows 7 to run on a P3 900 MHz CPU, 368 RAM 15 GB HDD. 
Granted I had a 2 1/2 min boot up time and a 1 1/2 min shut down time but heh....having Windows 7 running on an old laptop was pretty cool. try that with vista....he he ...not.... 
Also running Windows 7 on a GHz Edit
running Windows 7 on 1.2 GHz 640 MB ram and 30 GB HDD and it is pretty fast

You would be amazed on the minimal amount of hardware Windows 7 can run on.
Try it and tell me your success stories. Granted this is for only surfing the web and checking emails but heh!!! no problem here using a secondary dusted off laptop that was taking up space in the closet....makes your old desktop/laptop seem new running a new O/S on it with minimal performance loss!!

but the thing broke after even getting a dose of xp...
