OK; thanks, Painter.

Please keep us posted if it causes any problems or doesn't work out for any reason. I don't need it right now, but may want to resort to it in the future--the next time I do a clean install of 7.

Kb3083710

It's strange that I didn't get the Windows Update notification (in my Sys Tray) even though I have re-enabled Windows Update.

Does anyone know if KB3083710 is safe to install?

As far as I can tell, it seems to be an update for Windows Update.
Apparently it replaces KB3083324.

I am going to test it out. I think windows updates update are ok, it just those that are related to windows 10. The telemetry updates may or may not be ok. From the way I understand it, it suppose to remain disabled if you have windows 7 Customer Experience Improvement Program turned off.

Yes I installed it when it first came out and it works. I did not get any of the W10 crap this Patch Tuesday or last patch Tuesday.
I thought all it did was take away that W10 Icon on the task bar. Need to read more.

Those are OK to install lehnerus. As long as you use the group policy or registry workaround then they're fine to install. I have them all installed on my pc. There isn't really much in those updates, except for a couple of extra files that deal with the Windows 10 download/upgrade offer in Windows update.

So far this has not affected me. There is a discussion over at 10 about this. Link.

Here is quote from that article labeeman linked to.

Quote:
Reports are circulating that some users are being presented with dialog boxes that only give them the option to start the upgrade process or reschedule it for a later date. Others are finding that the Windows Update screen is only offering them the option to begin the upgrade process, with other system updates being hidden from view.

So make a full image backup before installing windows updates. I never thought I would say those words.

Hey, Y'all having fun yet?
Not sure if this is going to help, but I am following the thread, KB3035583 Reappeared After Being Hidden. There are some things foundthere that I am trying before GWX. Group Policy to disable Windows Version Update.
Just sayin'.

Looks like MS has blocked the GWX control panel now.

It appears that KB3083710, from this Patch Tuesday's offering resets all settings thru the WU engine (i.e. your settings included). If you have your group policy or registry workaround set to prevent W10, you will have to redo it. If you do not install it, your settings will remain unchanged. Your choice.

Other aspects of what KB3083710 does remains unknown. MS is in charge - not you.
