    Yep the Note part
I take that as the update system may update it's self not as loading recommended/ optional updates.
I believe you may have simply missed one of the 10 telemetry updates ?

Or... You can allow and apply the updates. Just make sure you have the registry value set to disable the notifications, as described here:

    1. Run regedit.exe as an administrator.
    2. Create a key named Gwx within HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\.
    3. Create new dword value, named DisableGwx, with a value of 1

The registry value sticks through the updates.

I don't bother hiding most of these 10 updates because they return so I just leave them in the Optional updates queue to collect dust
I may be delusional, bot I have found that these updates install themselves regardless of the update settings. They come disguised as Important, Recommended, and Optional. I have always had settings just to notify me. One day they will be sitting there 'gathering dust' as you say, and then *poof* they are installed. I never see it occur, so I really don't know how it's happening. Perhaps I have missed one that has been installed and it is opening the door for the others. Knowing M$ as I do, this would not surprise me. Man I'm getting really tired of this nonsense.

I noticed something at the bottom of the Windows Update (see image) that may account for this:
I haven't had any install without me accepting them. I have the same settings as you and all the 10 updates are sitting in my hidden list.

The note at the bottom is just to notify you the first time you do an update check, say on a new install, it automatically updates the Windows Update Agent before it can check for other updates.

I've about had it up to here with this cat and mouse game they are playing.

I've decided to severely limit all Internet access and activity when using Windows. I'll check the SANS critical update list each month and patch those "critical" ones only, then back to my self imposed Windows Internet ban.

As I have recently retired there are no longer work related reasons to use Windows as Linux does over 90% of what I now need - only big exceptions are using Lightroom and Video Studio (Windows only)...but neither requires Internet access.

    Regards,
    GEWB

Agreed 100%. I love Windows 7. How can it have all gone this pear shaped? I am not transitioning to Windows 10 even for free on my numerous machines. he next OS going on the drives will be Linux Mint. I'll keep using 7 till EOL but with https://www.codeweavers.com/products/ (paid solution) enabling you to run Windows software under Linux and also VMWare Workstation has a Linux version I can also run Virtual Machines like I do now. Microsoft is plain lying about their data collection and I no longer trust them or the software so I won't be using it in the long term.

I would of thought if you do Option one here - Upgrade to Windows 10 Update - Enable or Disable in Windows 7 or 8.1 - Windows 10 Forums that it should go away forever.

Negative until this box is unchecked they will continue to appear,
Pretty much why I stopped hiding them
Too bad that box excludes office 2007 otherwise I would of unchecked years ago :/
