What do you want to see in Microsoft's retail stores?

    Posted: 12 Feb 2009
The rumor first started in April 2008, and many were skeptical Microsoft was really planning to follow in Apple's footsteps and launch its own retail stores. In November, the company launched its online Microsoft Store in the US, and the general consensus was that the rumor had been put to rest. Not so. In press release late today, the software giant announced that it will indeed be rolling out new Microsoft-branded stores.

David Porter, head of worldwide product distribution DreamWorks Animation SKG, will join Microsoft as corporate vice president of Retail Stores, reporting to Microsoft Chief Operating Officer Kevin Turner. The stores, according to Microsoft, will improve the PC and Microsoft retail purchase experience for consumers worldwide, including helping consumers make more informed decisions about their PC and software purchases. Porter's first task will be defining the time frame, locations, and specifics for the Microsoft-branded retail stores.

    lmao....
    (cries of laughter..)

jokes aside i see what they are trying to do is go get to customer the Apple way...
(since the barrier (no puns intended...:)) between the Customer and the MS is the OEM)
this way they can show the customer their product the way they want to...

dont know if it could compete with apple though...
people see apple as a small underdog of the Computer market ( which in actually should be linux... no flame wars please...)
and as the one that brings new things (which in actually some are copied from someone else... again no flame war....)
as you can see i use different OS's with different philosophies (with the exception of mac which ATM is way to expensive to pay, have been using a mac though but not mine so that cant count...)

MS is seen as this big corporation and has in reality no real cults (unlike macs, fanboy and fanboy forums are another thing and like i said no flame wars...)

Something like the Apple Genius Bar, only Microsoft wouldn't call it that. I've seriously wanted to ask one of those yahoos the the Apple store for their Mensa card. What? Not a genius? Oh, gee well I am -- take a seat.

I'd like like to see someone file a lawsuit against Apple for that bit of false advertising.

I do think it would be a somewhat "different" experience to work at Microsoft's "Genius Bar". Would the Microsoft expert get the same adoration and adulation? I think not. The poor sap would probably become a perennial whipping-boy for all the crackpots, conspiracy theorists and Apple/Linux fanboys. I can see it now -- the poor sap trying to do his job while the peanut gallery hoots and heckles about "Bill Gates" this and evil-empire that and just how much better the customer's life would be if he'd convert to Apple's "One True Religion" or Linux' "Windows is Bloated Spagetti Code" cults.

What would I like to see at the Microsoft store? An expert bar, staffed with well-paid highly competent professionals, in a relaxing productive environment.

With mace and water cannons to drive off the nuts...
