Yep I show 2-KB2952664 listings too = I love it when that happens
The purpose of a PC is to run software applications. At the moment most paid and free software is written for a Windows platform. Linux supports some free software (mainly GNU based) and you can try running Windows software under Wine but I don't think it's a robust solution. Things like LibreOffice and GIMP don't measure up to the real thing.
After 2020 third party software may only be compatible with Windows 10. Like it or not I feel Windows 10 may be inevitable for those who want to run a range of third party software.
Michael I think you are wrong. They ARE the real thing.Things like LibreOffice and GIMP don't measure up to the real thing.
Each to their own Wolfgang. I don't see the professional or even serious amateur photographer moving to GIMP any time soon. It's layout is confusing and documentation is terrible. Plugins like Topaz which are widely used are not supported for GIMP. For MS Office the Visual Basic Macros and Excel data analysis add ins are way ahead of Libre Office IMO.
It may make a difference if the business world made a big shift but I wouldn't hold my breath.
Yeah, now you are on a tangent. I am talking about simple users like me. Not professionals. I have never been looking for more when I was using those programs.
When the next version of Office(2010 to 2013) etc is slightly different in usage, "the professional or even serious amateur photographer" will have issues with that too.
Let alone a different program or OS.
