Oh and the WEI seems a bit broken in terms of aero graphics and gaming scores
    .

What`s wrong with the WEI. Mine seems to report correctly. I assume you know that the Win7 WEI goes up to 7.9 (in lieu of the Vista 5.9). I guess they changed it just to confuse us and now we are comparing apples and oranges.
As in an aero score of 4.4 and a gaming score of 5.5.

    I have a similar situation

That isn't right - games would be more stressful than Aero. Probably why Aero seems a bit wonky too. SP1 will probably fix this.

With the WEI here I end up with 5.9 for the older mid range model video card.

My Black Friday purchase (Sony laptop) is the first device I've ever used Windows 7 on. Having come from Windows XP on my desktop and never touching Vista (), I must say Windows 7 is very pleasing. I like XP, but Windows 7 is fantastic, and I can't wait to see what more it has to offer by spending more time checking it out.

I've been running Win 7 pro on a old Asus F3JR, which came with Xp pro and I am very happy with Win 7. I skipped Vista altogether...

My F3Jr runs better than it did with XP pro which is amazing.

I've been using Windows since Win 95 and I have to say that i never thought that MS would come up with a stable OS! I was wrong. 7 is rock solid! It just works..

I miss those old Duke3D alien blasting days seen with 95 and 98SE here while 7 is on top of the list for desktop versions by far! I think you will that at least 99% of those here at SF as well as other places are actually impressed at how well 7 turned out!

Vista was still quite a bit more stable then the previous versions that came before it there. But definitely lacked quite a bit in the performance area simple from the MS attempt there to fill it up with all new but too many features! 7 will certainly turn things around overall.

I did no do much on the new computer that I bought last summer, at discount because it came with Vista, I was waiting to receive my free copy Windows 7.
At last I received it and installed Windows 7 yesterday. Having worked on XP for many years, I must say that right at the beginning I hated Vista.
I first put my adaptation problems in the fact that I not that young anymore, and might have problems adapting to something new.
But as soon as Win7 was installed, some problems I had were automatically solved (like my Home Network between this computer, my older desktop and my laptop that are still on XP)
I still have a few issues, but I am sure this forum will help me.
Anyway, already, a HUGE difference with Vista!

It's definitely a hugh difference period when you start going back to the 9x family up until now! Here I started off with pre Dos even into Dos and 3.1 later and moving on through the 9x bunch to XP, Vista, and now 7 with 7 being the top choice!
