    Hi,

To whom that it may concern.

I installed those ten important updates listed below with WU set "Check for updates but let me choose whether to download and install them" , unchecked "Give me recommended the same way I receive important updates" and " Allow all users to install updates on this computer" unchecked also.

After all, I checked with GWX Control Panel, never10 and had
a search on computer to see if GWX would be found as it used to happen before.

    Everything came fine.

    • Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer 11 for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB3160005)
    • Security Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB3164035)
    • Security Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB3159398)
    • Security Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB3161949)
    • Security Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB3161664)
    • Security Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB3161958)
    • Security Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB3164033)
    • Security Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB3161561)
    • Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB3162835) - June 2016 DST and time zone update for Windows
    • Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool x64 - June 2016 (KB890830)

Tried to install 14 or so updates this evening (minus the inevitable W10 update); left it for an hour and a half and it didn't download anything (stuck on 0%) so I'll leave it to the weekend. Thinking maybe loads of people trying to download at the same time.

I thought we were past the slow downloads, but I was Oh, so wrong. June's updates took 2 hours to download & install, after the first failure, which also took an hour. I don't know what's going on, but the large regular monthly updates are becoming a nightmare.

The strange thing is that MSE updates download & install quickly.

The updates are likely to be more of a nightmare if you install them immediately they are offered and without any sense of tactics. There is at least one update this month that is acknowledged now by MS to be problematic (KB3159398) and another that is believed to be critical to updating speed and which should therefore be installed first (KB3161664). It makes no sense to install any updates until they have been fully checked, cleared, and prioritised by experts on a variety of sites.

    Hi,

Knowing that the WU must be handled with the proper care nowadays, but just to avoid some unfounded panic about KB3159398, I suggest having a look at:

    https://community.spiceworks.com/topic/1666296-beware-known-issues-with-update-kb3159398

and find “EDIT 2: I strongly urge everyone to NOT decline this update.”

My system is working fine after updates.

I suggest you and others also read the comments below the article.

It seems to me that the important thing these days is this - whether you decide to install an update or not, don't make that decision the moment the update is offered to you. Rather, wait a few days and see what is being said about it. The only exceptions to that should be in the case of a day zero hotfix, or of course if you're running Windows 10 and don't have any choice in the matter!

    Hi,

Thanks for your suggestion, but I am just sharing my own experience about WU without being paranoid about that. Only handling it with the proper care, no panic at all.

    Hi,

Little birdy says download this one in advance
    Main download page KB3161664
    https://technet.microsoft.com/library/security/MS16-073
Little birdy was correct (in my case)

Windows Update check was endless this time around. Installed KB3161664 (standalone installer) - rebooted and updates appeared in a couple of minutes. Downloading them now.

I was also just about ready to post how good Windows Updates has been working until this last batch.
Seems like a little reminder from Microsoft what they think of Windows 7 users.
Yes; I already have KB3161664 installed and it still took many tries and a very, very, very long time to search and download the Updates.
