Oddly - I am still waiting for someone...anyone that I currently know or did know that is using Windows 10. This runs from friends at work to my pals at recording studios to all the friends we have in the ole social circles.

We talk about this stuff all the time - and I cannot confirm a single person as of yet - who actually uses Windows 10 on an active computer.

Now I do not know thousands of people but enough to go "that's really weird". Especially after a year of "free".

That because a lot of people do everything with their smart phone, they probably don't know what os is on the phone. To me, unless you use free (Unsafe/unsecure) wifi you can pay a lot of money. I wish I had the kind of money to waste.

The W10 usage numbers will not grow significantly until the Enterprise clients migrate to W10. If there is no catastrophic setback with W10 it should go as planned and take the next 4 years to complete. The larger enterprises fully cut over later rather than sooner.

Govt and education not so predictable. Home users and small businesses W10 growth will more likely be tied to new hardware sales.

MS sucked in a lot of beta testers: insiders and freeloaders. If it was not for all the trickery, the percentage would have been a lot lower. 20% in 12 months to beta test an OS is pretty impressive.

Yeah but I haven't upgraded any of my licences. I only set up a VM to test out each major update for a few days, then I delete it!

Figured you upgraded at least one if nothing else to test if it can be moved to another mother board

I realise that other stat sites have different values, but I always use NetMarketShare.

The stats referred to in that link actually show a higher number of installs of W10 (compared to NetMarketShare's numbers).

According to NetMarketShare, the gap between the market shares of W7 and W10 shrunk by ~4%.

No, I didn't bother to upgrade any of them. If I'd been a bit more enthusiastic about 10, then I would've upgraded a couple of licences. From what I've been reading the free upgrade isn't transferable anyway. I've seen mentions of the digital entitlement only being tied to the hardware it's installed on. I don't know how true that is as I haven't tested it.

I've never bought upgrade licences in the past anyway, I prefer just to buy full retail versions. Less hassle and at least you know you can transfer those without issues later on, and you still get to use the original licence.

I think you are correct in accepting these stats as closer to reality.

NetMarketShare sniffs browser strings and uses tracking codes on pages with their networks of websites, depicting country of origin, device type (mobile/desktop/console), operating system, browser, and browser version. Geographic differences can have a huge influence on more detailed statistical breakdowns.

This is a lot more accurate than counting how many users upgraded to W10.
