What Has Windows 7 Done For You?

One of the things I've noticed over the past one year with Windows 7 has been that over various versions (7100RC, 7229 [a rock, if you ask me] and now Ultimate Retail) is that Windows' memory management has improved dramatically.

I personally had a great experience with Vista, and it never once crashed on me, but what it did was that RAM usage would creep upward slowly over a period of days until it reached a point where the system was reduced to a crawl and I was forced to reboot the system.

7 on the other hand, feels just as snappy 8 days after last reboot (for installation of an update) as it was just after the reboot. I am now rebooting only when specifically required to do so. Memory usage has not increased at all. In fact, it has dropped slightly, from 2.2GB to about 1.9GB (but who cares, my RAM is for my system to use, not for me to hoard).

Application management is also light years better. I have not yet found a single application that was capable of bringing the OS crashing down around my ears. Blue screens (crosses fingers) seem to be a distant memory.

All in all, I would say it has been an enlightening and rewarding experience using 7 for the past one year.

Another thing, the RC was (and is) just as stable and fast as the release.

We're sorry, here's the real OS we meant to provide!

It lives up to all the hype that surrounded Vista. With the right hardware, it's faster, better resource management, etc..

I like that it installs drivers out of the box. A big downside with Microsoft used to be that once you install the OS, you need to spend countless hours hunting down drivers. The average user can't do that. It's good to see Microsoft saw the issue and tried to fix it. Out of the box, without any tweaks, Windows 7 is amazing compared to its' predecessors.

Has anyone used the new "Windows Easy Transfer"? OMG what an improvement over the previous version, love it!

Well, let me think...............

It's forced me into an Anger Management program
My frustration level is at an all-time high.

It forced me to stop playing Solitaire ( I really HATE the revised version)
That is, until I found out how to copy the sol.exe and cards.dll files from XP
and put them into 7.

It forced me to stop using Outlook Express or Windows mail, until I found out how
to transplant Windows Mail from Vista.

The "you don't have permission" thing was driving me nuts, till I came across "Take Ownership". By the way, did you know that program is Copyrighted?

It takes at least a half dozen tweaks and scripts to knock Win-7 down to a manageable level.

It's helped to turn my hair a snowy white.

Other than that, Windows 7 hasn't really done anything for me.

I'm still waiting to report something positive.

Hm, what did he done for me ... Well it`s first OS after XP that keep me satisfied more then a month. It helped me to get used to be a user, even if I knowed how to setup a XP I HATE THAT. Win 7 is "run and go" system (at least for me).

So no more tweaking Win XP after every installation, and I can say comparing to Win XP am using Win 7 more then a four month and still there`s no need for reinstall or system tweak. Works fast as the first day.

Windows 7 has caused nothing but frustration for me.I am so sorry I ever bought it.I am an old man of 67 years old.I would say I'm just an average computer operator.I hate being forced to use Live Mail.My computer locks up constantly.I don't like the way the new folders work.I bought a 22" monitor to use with my new computer.Now the print is so small,I have to enlarge the magnification twice on every page I visit.
I know most of you will probably think,he's just an old man and don't understand most of what he's doing.In this case,your right.I don't.I used Window's XP for years and found none of the problems I'm having with 7.What ever happened to "user friendly?"

It just works. I won't say for me it has been significantly better than XP. However it boots faster and is very nice in appearance.

I wouldn't want to go back.
