Windows 7 x64 build 7068

As for the Asus eeePC, here is the review I did for it from the Egg: As far as Win7 on the netbook, it is rocking... it has been running now for about two weeks and have not had a single issue.

Should have added another Con as I did not get to keep it, it was a gift for my Sister...

Pros: Runs great with Win7 Build 7000. Installed from flash drive in 35 minutes, Win7 had all drivers except LAN. I read that the eee needed an adapted AHCI driver so I updated that and then ran the LAN driver from the install CD (well copied to flash drive rather) in compat. mode XP w/admin and had no issues. Then I ran the hotkeys driver the same way and have full function on all hotkeys.

Since the eee has a split 160gb hard drive I used the second partition for video, music, and general file storage. Set a fixed swap file, disabled hibernation, indexing, tablet etc. normal Win tweaks.

Runs very smooth, boots in about 45 seconds. Seems a tad slower than a full desktop with the Internet but I was shocked about all the other things it does extremely well. Only app that seems to be too much for it is Media Center, seems the graphics bog the system, it runs, just choppy. Media Player runs without issue so easy solution there.

Cons: Yes, fingerprints, the blue finish seem quite the magnet but the mico-cloth is better than most so easy fix.

Only sorta con that I can come up with was the speakers did not get very loud, but that got fixed by enabling "Loudness Equalization" in speaker properties and now the speakers are very loud and as another Pro they do not crack or distort at full volume. Asus put a mean machine together here!

Nothing but good for the Asus 1000he, if you need a small 3lb full function laptop,(just add external DVD drive I got the Lite On, excellent) the eee is for you. It you just to have the coolest, it is for you.

I don't do too many reviews but the Asus eee is just too good not to.

Newegg Rocks!

Other Thoughts: Upgraded the RAM to 2gb, Corsair DDR2 667 value select from here the egg of course.

Over all this netbooks rocks, it has the N280 cpu/chipset with the 667 fsb. The cpu is at 1.66 on each core and other than Media Center or first seconds of app laucnh the cpu stays under 60% load. I have 40 or so movies in Ipod touch format (about 700mb each) on the second partition and cpu handles video playback at about 20% load. Win7 does a good job at handling ram usage also and have really never seen it rise more than 60% of the 2gb.

Also a bonus of this model is the LCD with backlight, it is very bright and clear, best display I have seen on a netbook.

Have not found anything other than Media Center to slow this netbook down. Battery life is excellent, you can watch a movie, do some internet, write some emails, mess with Excel, and still have 30%. So with media heavy use around 3 to 4 hours. Have not tried it with WiFi off and dim screen etc to see the use there.

Windows 7 Ulti x64

Got my Asus EeePC 1000HE running with Win 7 got a WEI of 2.1. IE8 seems to lock up frequently. Kaspersky won't update all the way. You can definitely tell it is struggling. Running XP is much faster, I have a feeling things will pick up when RC1 comes out.
I upgraded the RAM and am running 7068. I was able to video message my father right off the bat, so the driver situation isn't too bad.
Looking forward to more 7 releases.

Question About Two Year Old Netbook
Hey folks I have this extra netbook, Samsung Atom 1.6 processor, 200 GB HD, 1 gig of RAM, Windows7 starter. My daughter had it and managed to totally get it to freeze up and it was unresponsive, well after I ended up getting her a new laptop she gave it back to me. One night I decided to sit...

Windows 7 review
What if Microsoft waved a magic wand and everything people hated about Windows Vista went away? You might have an operating system that you liked - and that's what Microsoft appears to be striving for with Windows 7. We checked out an early beta of Windows 7, and though at this point many...
