I think we knew or least had an idea this just might happen. We have seen Pirate Bay, and Mininova, come down. It looks as if Canada's ISO Hunt is next on the blocks. Whether, we think it is unfair is not the issue; the issue is that there are copyright laws in almost every country, and these laws are there to protect those who put a great deal of time and money into a project. The effort may be a song, a book, an invention, or just a toy. Albeit it took someone time to put it together, hence, they should be protected from individuals who would steal that idea.

No matter how you word it, and attempt to make it right stealing someone else's intellectual work is wrong.

    Sorry I don't agree.

Copyright infringement has been going on for as long as material has been produced. Is it any different to recording tv shows off the television? Is it any different from recording the chart hits off the radio when you were a kid? Absolutely not.

This is not about protecting the artists and their work this is about lining the wallets of the people the are signed too. Most of the time the artist doesn't even see a penny of what they recoup from their bullying tactics and more often than not don't even know that their name is being used in this campaign to target vulnerable people.

So is it ok to destroy someone life with fines of millions of pounds/dollars for the download of a single movie/film that is not worth the price we pay for them?

I agree the artist needs to be paid but it the corporations behind these artist that are the issue here.

By the way the pirate bay is still up and running and not down.
people need to stop ignoring the obvious(lee). as i have stated time and time again during the years when music piracy was at it's highest so were music sales at their highest. now this year music sales are down and guess what music piracy is down this year. for the last two years movie piracy has seen their largest years and guess what the movie industry has had the two most profitable years ever. i do not buy coincidence. like it or not controversy sells. piracy is the new pr because it is controversial. rst101 is right.

As I said, thieves will always find a way to prove they are right, and no better what everyone else is wrong. They will attempt to prove themselves to be nice people by finding a way to lie their way out of a situation regardless of how wrong it is. "It is not fair that Microsoft makes all that money, and I don't get any of it, so I will steal their property, and that goes for Adobe, and Corel, etc.." "They owe the people (me) for just being here." Get my point.

So have you never recorded shows of tv or the chart hits when you were younger? Maybe on cassette tapes from your mates bedroom? Because if you never you must be the only person in the world not to have done so.

I guess were all thieves according to your logic.

every body has done it at some point, whether its taping something off tv etc. as previously mentioned,

have you ever tried to get a refund on a piece of software? good luck. to use the car analogy, if the manufacturor puts a new piece of software into your car (as so many cars are 90% computer nowadays) and it results in the car being undrivable, the manufacturor have to replace/refund under warranty, companies who sell dogy buggy software for PC have no such obligations, its just:
SOftware Company "tough, should have read the EULA"
Me: "but its on the inside of the box, i had to buy it to read it"
SC "and thats our problem why?",

so i can see the "piracy as marketing" thing, but i cant justify it if said pirate has no intention of buying the software, that admittedly is wrong

But it's not just about greed.

The power to control the people and what they buy.

Again RST101 you have proven my point. If I cannot prove it is right then I will blame someone else. I will point out how stupid they are my saying they recorded a movie or television show (sorry never owned a VHS or Beta machine).

If that doesn't work then lets point out the greedy corporations. If it wasn't for them we wouldn't need to steal their products. They set the prices to high, so in order for us lowly peasants to get some of their products we have to steal it that is the only way we will ever get what we want.
