Windows 7 SP1 is just a minor upgrade

    Posted: 18 Mar 2010
Just as it was the case for the two service packs for Windows Vista, SP1 for Windows 7 will be just a minor upgrade. Just a few days short of the first five months since it launched its latest Windows client, Microsoft is finally ready to start talking Windows 7 Service Pack 1 (SP1). According to Brandon LeBlanc, Windows communications manager on the Windows Client Communications Team, the online Desktop Virtualization Hour event will act as the opportune moment for the Redmond company to share the first details on SP1 for Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2.

“For Windows 7, SP1 includes only minor updates, among which are previous updates that are already delivered through Windows Update. SP1 for Windows 7 will, however, deliver an updated Remote Desktop client that takes advantage of RemoteFX introduced in the server-side with SP1 for Windows Server 2008 R2,” LeBlanc said.

Ditto. Unlike Windows 95 (Blah! ).........then Windows 98 ......and Windows XP .......all of which shipped already needing a sevice pack, IMO, Windows 7 has been running great on my PC since day one.

I had a very minor glitch with my X-Fi drivers for a few hours on day one, but it was a simple patch to fix. I can't say enough good things about Windows 7, I'm a very happy user..........end of line

I am kind of worried to install SP1 when it is released.

7 is running about as good as I could think it could. Installing it seems like it would only slow it down since Microsoft's recent track record with Service packs have not been that amazing...

One reason for buying 7 right off was seeing the RCs perform far better then seen with previous versions. 7 will need some minor items addressed but never be lacking where it needs numerous fixes like seen with the over 1,000 for XP with SP3 there!

I feel the same way. I waited 18 months before I installed XP's sp1. I'm in no hurry for Seven's sp1. It it ain't broke...

The thing is though, buy the time it comes out you will have already likely have installed 90% of it just by doing your windows updates. Most of it will be the patches already released. The things to watch out for are the "New Functionality". I'll likely wait a month or so before I bite the bullet. If there are any big screw ups in it I would think they would show up fairly quickly.
