Will Windows 7 be MS's biggest hit ever? Last week, the Internet echo chamber went crazy over the release of a survey conducted by Dimensional Research on behalf of its client KACE. The survey asked more than 1100 IT professionals about their plans to deploy Windows 7, and the headlines, based on a few preliminary reports, were a predictable mish-mash of Microsoft bashing. The most common themes in the hundred or more stories I scanned (most of them second- or third-hand reports, based on the same preliminary press releases) suggested that businesses are wary of Windows 7 and that IT admins prefer XP.
The most negative headline of all was delivered by VentureBeat, which has backed up the hearse for Windows 7 and is ready to cart it away: Study: Windows 7 could follow Vista to an early grave.

Interesting article. It's hard to remember, but Windows 95 was a pretty big release. I don't know if Windows 7 can beat it. Perhaps in raw numbers, but as percentage of available upgraders, Windows 95 might still be the bigger hit. I remember people waiting in line a day or two before release to be the first to get Windows 95. I don't see that happening with Windows 7.
I will say that I think that Windows 7 will be MS's best OS to date. I think Vista was a big step forward, but due to internal issues, was not as clean an introduction as it could have been. Windows 7 takes the positives from Vista, tightens up the code somewhat, and I think it really shows what the hardware out there is capable of.
Good luck MS. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number MPC Transport T2500 Laptop OS Windows 7 x64 (RTM via MSDN) CPU Intel Core 2 Duo T9300 (2.5 GHz) Motherboard MPC Memory 4 GB SODIMMS (System Max) Graphics Card nVidia 8600M GS 256MB Sound Card Realtek On-Board Monitor(s) Displays 15.4" LCD with a Dell 2005FPW 20" attached Screen Resolution 1680x1050 (15.4") and 1680x1050 (20") Hard Drives Toshiba 2.5" 320 GB 7200 RPM |

I remember 95 more than any other. It signified almost the death of DOS as it was a complete OS in itself. The comparrision is a bit unfair as that was a complete change from 1 user controlled typing interface through to an almost completely mouse driven user interface OS. This is a re-work of an existing OS, but wow, what a re-work!! Death of XP here we come... | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Compaq Desktop OS Windows 7 Ultimate x64 CPU AMD Sempron Dual Core Memory 3GB Graphics Card NVIDIA GeForce 6150SE nForce 430 Screen Resolution 1024x768 Hard Drives 150GB Sata |

Are you joking. This is already the best operating system microsoft has produced by a country mile. Vista or xp cant even be addressed in the same breath as this awesome os. All the negative comments are form people who have never even seen a screen shot never mind tested it and anti ms. What everybody seems to forget is the fact it is still in infantsy and already is proving as quick as anything out there and the stability is almost nearing completion. It took xp years to get a good name yet here we have an os that is far more advanced than any other os has been at this stage of its life something that already makes breakfast, dinner and lunch out of every other operating system out there. What makes it even more remarkable is 80%(ish) of the population hasn't even heard of it. Believe me it is going to sweep all before it upon its release.
