Microsoft Already Starting on Windows 8

    Posted: 18 Apr 2009
    Tom's hardware reports:

According to a job posting on Microsoft's site, the company is starting to put its engineering team together for designing the successor to Windows 7. The job posting details of a storage related position with focus in the enterprise:
"For the upcoming version of Windows, new critical features are being worked on including cluster support and support for one way replication. The core engine is also being reworked to provide dramatic performance improvements. We will also soon be starting major improvements for Windows 8 where we will be including innovative features which will revolutionize file access in branch offices."
If you've got what it takes to be the "Lead Software Development Engineer in Test," apply right here. Or you can sit back and wait to see how Windows 8 will develop.
No big surprise to me, but interesting.

Hmm, I actually think Microsoft is going a bit too fast now with Windows releases.
I know that the gap between XP and Vista was a rarity in Windows development but I liked it that way much more.
I mean, when will this end? There will never be a large install base of one certain Windows version so it seems.

Couldn't this bring problems: for example developers will need to make their apps compatible with more and more Windows versions. And no, the oldest Windows versions in the row won't be classified as "old" fast because the majority of family users will never upgrade their Windows on their existing PC:
Most family users only get a new OS when they purchase a new PC.
And combining that with the fact that most families keep their current PC as long as possible (they are all tech noobs) there will be a bigger amount of wildspread Windows OS'es then nowadays (2000, XP, Vista, 7).

I hope you get my point.:)

"For the upcoming version of Windows' Sounds more like its for Windows 7, IMO. I read the job post, and I just don't see any indication that its for a future project.
