Today we reported our third quarter earnings for the period ending March 31st, 2010 with a record $14.5 billion in revenue. You can read our earnings results here. Windows 7 continues to be a growth driver for Microsoft and people continue to be excited about Windows 7. How excited? Exactly 6 months after the launch on October 22, 2009, we’ve sold well over 100 million licenses of Windows 7. To put that in context, more than 10% of all PCs worldwide are already running Windows 7 today. That’s amazing!

I'm a minority too... does that mean I get all the Affirmative Action Benefits???? :D

Assuming every new PC comes with W7, and assuming the average PC lives 5 years of useful life, we should have 20 % after 1 year. In addition some people and companies postponed buying new PCs to wait for W7. then the people who upgrade their old PC (likely the minority, this forum is not representative for the population)

the only thing holding W7 back is that companies still wait for SP1 (like my employer, they will deploy new PCs with XP till 3 months after SP1 )

I agree with you HerrKaleum.

As a company it is a lot easier to release a company wide upgrade with an OS that had some time to get some bugs out of it. I would assume they figure after SP1 is release it will be stable enough to use without fear of a system crash.

Of course I believe it was good enough for just about any company right out of the gate but companies don't trust it lol.

they only will equip new PCs with W7. since we typically have PCs for 3 years, we still will have XP PCs in 2014.

I'm very sure it would be safe to start deploying some PCs with W7 already. ow else would they test anyway? I agree, if a company switches all OS at once, waiting for SP1 may be better.

Win 7 will be around for some time to come. I know of a couple of places around town here that are using Win 3.XX, and Win 95, 98, and a tiny few with ME. Must them are still running on computers they bought back in early to middle 90's.

It is always interesting to see these old computers when you go to an store or cafe. :D

I really wonder how safe they think they are using such outdated software.

If they are still using very old Windows just think of all the security holes, IE browser would be scary to use on todays internet with whatever old version it is.

Kind of sad really. Small business really should buy some cheap up to date computers. You can get cheap but still do the job ones for so little now a days.

They don't make computers like they used to back in the day, companeys dont wan tto spend $$ on new computers and hardware for example: a company has 200 computers all with XP and office 97 installed they want to upgrade it to windows 7 and office 2010 for example, they would have buy 200 license keys X2 for office as well as all the other programs they use and so on, its really expensive they why they don't do it.
