Well it's going to be just like any other MS product where the best results are seen using "their own" browser and not any 3rd party addon. They assume you are running Windows when going to download Windows to start with.
And it was the IE 8 seen in the 7000 build still being beta that saw all the problems! When first out IE 8 trashed the XP install at the time and saw some annoyances in teh beta builds being there as well. The finished IE 8 on the other smokes past the rest for the most part especially for any MS downloads in particular.
In all three XP, Vista, and 7 IE 8 was compared to Opera 9.64 and Chrome until XP was replaced by the 32bit RC. If you are not in one of the 7000 build be sure to use the finished version of IE 8. | My System Specs | | OS Windows 7 Ultimate x64, XP Mode, W8 RP VM, Linux Mint Debian 2nd OS HD- 7 Pro x64 second case CPU AMD Phenom II X4 975 Deneb 3.6ghz - 965 on new mini tower Motherboard Gigabyte GA-790XTA-UD4 Memory Kingston Hyper X DDR3 1600 1.5v 16gb - Mushkin on 2nd build Graphics Card MSI HD Radeon 5750 1gb - MSI HD Radeon 6450 on mini tower Sound Card Creative Labs X-Fi XtremeGamer - Realtek onooard 2nd case Monitor(s) Displays 2 x Acer P191W 19" widesscreen - HP 20" widescreen mini towe Screen Resolution 1440x900 native - 1600x1024 on 7 Pro x64 build Keyboard Microsoft Recusa Razor - MS Comfort 3000 on second build Mouse MS Trackball Explorer - A4TECH dual scroll wheel trackball PSU Corsair 750TX - primary / Corsair CX600 - second Case Antec 900-2 - SSD compatible / NZXT Vulcan mini tower Cooling Zalman CNPS9900A Hard Drives Primary Ultimate x64 build-

If you are using the MS downloader that will see the 3 digit extension changed to iso once the downloader has verified everything is 100% finished as Win7User512 pointed out there. Try restarting it if you can to see that will pick up and finish. Otherwise you may end needing to start all over with a second download. | My System Specs | | OS Windows 7 Ultimate x64, XP Mode, W8 RP VM, Linux Mint Debian 2nd OS HD- 7 Pro x64 second case CPU AMD Phenom II X4 975 Deneb 3.6ghz - 965 on new mini tower Motherboard Gigabyte GA-790XTA-UD4 Memory Kingston Hyper X DDR3 1600 1.5v 16gb - Mushkin on 2nd build Graphics Card MSI HD Radeon 5750 1gb - MSI HD Radeon 6450 on mini tower Sound Card Creative Labs X-Fi XtremeGamer - Realtek onooard 2nd case Monitor(s) Displays 2 x Acer P191W 19" widesscreen - HP 20" widescreen mini towe Screen Resolution 1440x900 native - 1600x1024 on 7 Pro x64 build Keyboard Microsoft Recusa Razor - MS Comfort 3000 on second build Mouse MS Trackball Explorer - A4TECH dual scroll wheel trackball PSU Corsair 750TX - primary / Corsair CX600 - second Case Antec 900-2 - SSD compatible / NZXT Vulcan mini tower Cooling Zalman CNPS9900A Hard Drives Primary Ultimate x64 build-

I suspect the user may have exited the download when it said 100%, but it was doing the checksum (i think it does one). | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Dell Inspiron 1520 (Laptop)/ Home (Desktop) OS Windows 7 x64 / Same CPU Intel Core 2 Duo T7250 / Intel Core i7 930 Motherboard Intel 945 / Asus P6X58D-E Memory 4GB / 6GB Graphics Card NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GS / ASUS 1GB Sound Card Whatever Dell gave me :-( / Onboard Monitor(s) Displays 15.4" LCD / Crappy CRT Mouse Microsoft Presenter (Bluetooth) PSU N/A / OCZ Fatal1ty 550W Modular Case N/A / Antec 900 Cooling Air Hard Drives Seagate 500GB SATA; 7200 RPM / Seagate 1TB SATA; 7200 RPM |

That would be about right. When you see the "done" appear at the bottom even while it may sit at 100% and all activity is stopped then browse to the download folder and right click to see what is shown in the properties>general tab in the opening for displaying the file name or renaming the file. | My System Specs | | OS Windows 7 Ultimate x64, XP Mode, W8 RP VM, Linux Mint Debian 2nd OS HD- 7 Pro x64 second case CPU AMD Phenom II X4 975 Deneb 3.6ghz - 965 on new mini tower Motherboard Gigabyte GA-790XTA-UD4 Memory Kingston Hyper X DDR3 1600 1.5v 16gb - Mushkin on 2nd build Graphics Card MSI HD Radeon 5750 1gb - MSI HD Radeon 6450 on mini tower Sound Card Creative Labs X-Fi XtremeGamer - Realtek onooard 2nd case Monitor(s) Displays 2 x Acer P191W 19" widesscreen - HP 20" widescreen mini towe Screen Resolution 1440x900 native - 1600x1024 on 7 Pro x64 build Keyboard Microsoft Recusa Razor - MS Comfort 3000 on second build Mouse MS Trackball Explorer - A4TECH dual scroll wheel trackball PSU Corsair 750TX - primary / Corsair CX600 - second Case Antec 900-2 - SSD compatible / NZXT Vulcan mini tower Cooling Zalman CNPS9900A Hard Drives Primary Ultimate x64 build-

Here I didn't rush for the betas and now the RCs but simply let them sit for some time before going to see them burned to disk once I knew there was no further activity. The MS downloader is like the 100% insurance by design that would be expected to verify everything before it stops completely.
From what I recall from seeing those available on the late 4th I left the 32bit RC which finished well before the 64bit simply sit for about a good 30 minutes or so before going to burn that one to disk while still waiting on the other.
When you look at the image there the 11:39pm was actually the MS local time when the 64bit download completed apparently. That was a good 6hrs. after starting it a few minutes after the 32bit. | My System Specs | | OS Windows 7 Ultimate x64, XP Mode, W8 RP VM, Linux Mint Debian 2nd OS HD- 7 Pro x64 second case CPU AMD Phenom II X4 975 Deneb 3.6ghz - 965 on new mini tower Motherboard Gigabyte GA-790XTA-UD4 Memory Kingston Hyper X DDR3 1600 1.5v 16gb - Mushkin on 2nd build Graphics Card MSI HD Radeon 5750 1gb - MSI HD Radeon 6450 on mini tower Sound Card Creative Labs X-Fi XtremeGamer - Realtek onooard 2nd case Monitor(s) Displays 2 x Acer P191W 19" widesscreen - HP 20" widescreen mini towe Screen Resolution 1440x900 native - 1600x1024 on 7 Pro x64 build Keyboard Microsoft Recusa Razor - MS Comfort 3000 on second build Mouse MS Trackball Explorer - A4TECH dual scroll wheel trackball PSU Corsair 750TX - primary / Corsair CX600 - second Case Antec 900-2 - SSD compatible / NZXT Vulcan mini tower Cooling Zalman CNPS9900A Hard Drives Primary Ultimate x64 build-
