For me there was a difference between the 7100 leak install and the official RC install. My first two 7100 leak install attempts resulted in errors. On the third try it installed fine, but it failed to install a few key drivers (which I didn't know at the time.) Uniblue didn't pick up anything. On another thread I was asked to check out RadarSync and see if it helped. It did - found the missing drivers, which were pretty obscure, but everything seemed to work fine. However, the next day I started have major problems connecting to the internet and a handful of other stability issues. I didn't care since the official RC download date was around the corner.
Everyone on here has read people posting threads during every build leak with stuff like, "This one sucks, I'm going back to 7022" or whatever. And every single thread has a bunch of people saying, "Works great for me, don't know what you're talking about."
So many variables, I can't say my 7100 leak was corrupted. All I know is that the official RC installed faster than the 7100 leak (again, this is just me) and it's been smooth sailing so far, and because I'm not sentimental, I've trashed every previous leak build forever.
unless you know that the hashes are the same as the the one that were on the ones posted it can actually be anything...
you have seen the reports and i have even talked of ways malware can get into the win7 installation...
if you have the same hashes then that is the same as the RC...
even to the the date modified...
(you can even check it yourself)
you can check whether any files where modified during the time it leaked and the time it came on msdn and technet or consequently in the CTP...
and if you see the files they are the same...
(as long as you know the leaked and the ctp hashes are the same..)
md-5 and even more the sha-1 algorithm are made so that if even if a single *bit*, *nibble*, *word*, or *byte* are modified then the whole "bit-wise answer "
changes completely to the point were you can tell by just glancing at it....:)
so if you have the correct hashes (and this is critical) and those hashes match on the downloaded them bit by bit as the leaked....
It Is the Same as the CTP !!!
I had been waitin for the RC since I first installed 7000, just because I only trust the final builds released by Microsoft, and all I can say is this RC has been running great for me all day! I had never been able to get compatibility mode working on build 7000, and now have no problem getting some older programs to run! The RC is much more stable, and I also finally made the leap to 64 bit to take full advantage of my 4 gigs of memory, and find the os to be much more snappy! I will be sticking with this version until the final release!
The RC is much closer to the final RTM builds and eventual finished product over any of the earlier builds in beta form. What most don't realize is that the beta builds are given out to different development teams to work different areas and later complied into the RCs.
What has been seen lately are leaks from the RC branch while still not being the public RC despite hash numbers and all that since any updates or last minute ingredients are added into the RC by internal testers only then loaded on the servers on schedule(actually before that as we well know).
Since the schedule was for the 5th they loaded it up at the end of the work day being the 4th since no one would be there to load it up at 11:59pm on the 4th! Plus this was being generally available you take into account the various time zones as well.
and each development team has a different branch...
there is a multmedia branch that was seen in a small screenshot sometime ago...
and that is used for a different team and so on...
like i said its impossible to have two matching sha-1 hashes and have different code...
the *whole* security industry is on it....
the conficker.a worm...
it used a sha-1...
and was that ever spoofed?
up to this day it has not...
not even the brightest people in crypto and others have been able to do so because its so secure..
i know it might be not be same scenario but it still stands
you cannot make any changes to the iso and have the *same* hash....
that is how the hash technology works
The previous 7100s seen before 4/24 were polluted and chopped up a bit where someone simply took an older build and swapped a few things out as well as inserting a few bugs in some of them for the guilable. The hashes weren't on display at that time.
At this point no one even has to worry about downloading anything off of any torrent site since you can go direct to MS and download both RCs directly! When something coming directly from the manufacturer(MS in particular) I generally never even have to look at the hashes to begin with.
which is what i mean...
the one on 4/24 had hashes...
and we found out where he was when he was uploading it...
and if you dont have hashes that you can trust from...
then you can have anything...
you can even have downloaded a vlited Vista....
and yes you are right build 7106 and the hacked on 7100 (i believe you are talking about it correct?...)
it can have anything as long as you dont have trusted hashes...
and you have to have common sense to not trust these builds...
(which anything can happen..)
i do have a few people i trust and these people have not been wrong...
actually if you get a corrupt download you dont know you have a corrupt download until you hash it...:)
