Hey guys and gals
I have Vista 64 dual boot with windows seven 7000 i just downloaded 7 RC 1
and after reading Microsoft's install instructions im a little confused.com
I wish to keep vista while dual booting 7 but what should i do? do i try for an upgrade from 7000 to RC1 or do i format 7000 and fresh install RC1?
Im really not feeling techy right now (must be the heat) so i need a more proffesional opinion
Thanx in advance
i say fresh install of the RC.
just format the partition that 7000 is on.
leave the vista partition alone if you want to keep it
OK wish me look on my voyage of formats and installation

One thing I found here rather then wiping the primary altogerher to see a fresh install was selecting the custom option when replacing the existing installation. The RC installer will then pack everything from the 7000 install into the Windows.old folder where you can save anything there you haven't already backed up before sending that on it's way.
What that does is still see the frech copy of Windows go on while leaving the other files and folders on the drive intact in case you lack space for backup. If you have no worries on that then a reformat or seeing a brand new primary won't be any problem for a totally fresh start. Nothing ever tops a clean install on a new primary!
I read the warnings about not installing 7 RC on your main computer and I also read the reviews about Windows 7's enhancements and stability. Since I was running Vista with periodic glitches and aggravations decided what the heck. So on May 5th I saved my personal files; Documents, Outlook settings, databases, etc. to a 16 GB USB drive, upgraded my power supply and memory to 8 GB then clean installed 7 RC, 7100 x64. Everything on my computer was recognized by the new OS and all drivers installed automatically including my HP all-in-one printer. I have been testing and checking out as much as possible for a week now and haven't had as much as one glitch or restarting browser... Only had two items needing attention: 1) repaired Adobe Reader 9.1 installation to correct a browser/pdf display problem...easy fix. and 2) uninstalled the LifeCam software (not working properly)...used MSN Messenger to set up LifeCam and now everything works as it should. I was so happy that I did the same thing to my laptop. Now I'm twice as happy. Did I mention I have no problems whatsoever! I even have the Vista version of Norton Internet Security ( NIS 2009 version 16.0.0.125 (58.5 MB dated 9/5/2008 11:43 PM) installed and working perfectly. Love the features and stability and I am already looking forward to the RTM!
