Steve Ballmer "We tried too big a task" with Vista

    Posted: 20 May 2010

It’s not every day that you hear the CEO of a major corporation admit that they wasted time on a product. But Steve Ballmer did just that when talking about Windows Vista. Ballmer stated that “We tried too big a task and in the process wound up losing thousands of man hours of innovation," according to Thinq.co.uk. All of those man hours resulted in a 5 year wait for the follow up to the rock solid platform that is still widely used today, Windows XP.

my brother can agree, from his constant "explorer.exe not responding" popups lol.
But yeah i see vista as kind of a loss of the intelligence put into it, or originally invested into

Vista is good in the beginning after you install it, but later on you start to see SO MUCH INCOMPATIBILITY, that the whole way you use the computer HAS to change - your OS forces you to. I didn't downgrade to XP when I got my Vista though. Stayed on Vista for about 2 years. Got used to it... Sort of... When Windows 7 came into my life, though, everything changed. No more worries - EVERYTHING JUST WORKS!

im staying with xp at first and i never ,so far using vista in my life as i heard they use a lot of resources.

im having a hard time going to seven at first too, but when i research about it. i think it's time to change.

i came across an article that stated "theres only 30% left of XP users in this world"

Vista with SP2 was turning out right. Except for the early days with driver issues, I have never had any major issue with Vista.

Iv said it before and ill say it again, Vista to me felt slightly unfinished, like there was alot of stuff that was still in "beta" mode (start menu search for instance) Its almost like Ballmer just went "s**t its been 5 years, just shove out what we've got, and call it... Vista, yeah Vista"

Vista was percived as a failure, not because of Microsoft, but because of the software designers and hardware manufacturors,

eveyone "in the know" had code for Vista a whole YEAR before release, but nobody bothered to release drivers, combine that with the slight unstableness you tend to get with a brand new Windows OS anyway (7 excluded from this) and THAT is why Vista bombed, Vista itself wasn't bad, once you got used to it, the thing that p***ed me off, was those PC companies selling PC's with 1GB of Ram and Vista, sure Vista will run on 1GB of Ram, just, but dont expect to get anything productive done.

If Microsoft made one mistake with Vista, it was making it incompatible with XP drivers and software, they must have known that alot of companies just wouldn't bother updating, it should have been backwards compatible.

Lastly, I am truly thankful for Vista because it led to its little big (little in terms of resources used compared to Vista, big in terms of stuff in it) brother Windows 7
