7 Windows 7 Licenses Sold Every Second Since Launch Quote: Microsoft’s latest Windows client is also the fastest selling operating system in history, having passed the 100 million sold licenses mark in the first six months after launch. Still, there are more interesting statistics to be shared. At Computex in Taipei, Taiwan on June 1st, Steve Guggenheimer, corporate vice president, Original Equipment Manufacturer Division, revealed that Microsoft had been selling 7 copies of Windows 7 per second since the October 22nd 2009 general availability deadline. Albeit this is nothing more than a coincidence, it still is a very interesting statistics, especially seeing as the Redmond company has continually put together marketing stunts around the number 7 to promote Windows 7.
"There's been over 100 million licenses or PCs sold with Windows 7 since the launch. So far, there's been about seven licenses sold every second since the launch occurred. So, we're seeing phenomenal growth in terms of the PC ecosystem. And the nice thing is, we're seeing more and more variety of types of PCs that are coming out. And I'll come back around to that as we go through,” Guggenheimer stated. Depending on what they mean with "over 100 million", it could be true. All those XP users who wanted to upgrade, but were put off by Vista. I never used Vista, but from what I gather, it wasn't so bad once they got the driver issues and the service packs out. But the initial bad reviews put many off. Unless Windows 8 is groundbreaking, I don't think we'll see such numbers for it. 7 copies of Windows 7 every second eh?
Between October 22nd 2009 and June 6th 2010 is 227 days
60 Seconds in a minute * 60 Minutes in a hour * 24 Hours in a day = 86,400 Seconds in a day
86,400 Seconds * 227 Days = 19,612,800 Millions of seconds between those two dates.
Take that number; 19,612,800 Millions of seconds * 7 Copies per second = ~137,289,600 copies of Windows 7 sold. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Custom | Whitebox OS Windows 7 Ultimate, OS X 10.7, Ubuntu 11.04 CPU Intel E6750 @ 3.80GHz Motherboard Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3L (Revision 1.1) Memory 2x2GB & 2x1GB (6GB) OCZ Reaper 1066MHz @ 1080MHz Graphics Card EVGA nVidia GTX 260 896mb (216 Core) FTW Edition Sound Card Realtek ALC888 Monitor(s) Displays 21" VIZIO TV Screen Resolution 1680x1050 @ 60Hz Keyboard Logitech Wireless S520 Mouse Logitech Wireless S520 - Microsoft Wireless Arc Mouse PSU Corsair 750W Case NZXT Nemesis Elite Cooling Thermaltake SpinQ Hard Drives Western Digital WD6401AALS - 640GB

At this rate, that would mean after 1 year Windows 7 was released, over 200 million licenses will have been sold. I expect the rate to go higher after Service Pack 1 is released though. | My System Specs | | OS Windows 7 Professional x64 CPU AMD A8-3870K Motherboard ECS A75F-M2 Memory 8GB DDR3 Graphics Card Radeon HD 6550D, Radeon HD 5850 PSU 750W Hard Drives 1TB |
