It takes forever it seems for Vista to shutdown now. After so long it becomes time for a drive wipe there I guess. The 32bit 7000 build saw a longer shutdown due to trying a bunch od 3rd party gadgets once that option was going. With the RC however that little registry annoyance is taken care of!

Hey, if people think that it's faster, they will think that there is a huge difference.
Don't spoil it for us
The first install of the 32bit 7 beta go trashed there and was wiped to see that corrected. As for Vista that's been on since last fall and hasn't even been booted into much since the 7 beta release. I was still using XP at certain times until lately.
as Those statistics may mean a little. it's the internal things that are better.
Win 7 is faster on Startup & shutdown. The main other thing is how efficient it is.. Windows 7 seems to run better with the same things installed. It takes less RAM to run just as well. Many many older computers, or laptops, and even netbooks that couldn't. Or struggled to run Vista. Are running Win 7.
The fact that if you got 2 of the same laptop, one with win 7 and one with vista. both with 1GB of ram. the Win 7 lappy would probably run better.
That's the whole thing about 7 to begin with. Besides seeing the usual "new features" aspect you would expect with any new release MS took into account the problems people were running into upgrading the OS without upgrading the hardwares at the same time.
Prebuilds until Vista came out as you know always provided the low as far as memory like seeing 256 while everyone else was running 1gb or 512mb later when people saw 1-2gb as the typical for XP systems. Suddenly that's no longer any good since everyone starts looking at the 1gb more factor for Vista. Now they're all seeing 3-4gb preinstalled lately.
Dual-booting Win7 x86 RC 7100 and Vista x86 SP2 RTM.
Same hardware (1 hard drive partitioned), programs, settings, etc.
Win7 is quicker, but not by very much.
RTM SP2 Vista very stable, fast and reliable and a big improvement over even the 2 beta's, 2RC's, and the RC escrow.
In prep for the RCs the XP/32bit 7000 drive saw a big change for the 32bit RC and recovery partition. As for seeing things run however the 64bit install and later upgrade repair install saw everything spring to life!
The 32bit still won't see one addon device working there however while even the 64bit 7000 did. The addon device through all this still only sees 32bit device drivers intended for ? XP!
I have a feeling thatt the focus by MS is leaning more on the 64bit Windows for upcoming versions following 7 not only from different blogs but by attitudes seen at Technet when simply bringing up the problem many have with finding drivers. With Vista having seen far better support there for that 7 should see a much larger increment overall by 3rd party interests!
