Senate 'Internet Kill Switch' Bill Moves Forward Quote: A Senate committee on Thursday approved a cyber-security bill that has prompted concern about a presidential "Internet kill switch."
The Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee unanimously approved the Protecting Cyberspace as a National Asset Act of 2010 (S. 3480). It now moves to the Senate floor for a full vote. Source
Our government at work, here is what I got trying to view the story on our Homeland Security website. Instills confidence

Hi there.
why don't these politicians just give up and move on to something more important like getting the global economy moving again.
You *might* be able to "kill the Internet" in Small Town america (or Small Town anywhere else for that matter) but in most places including bigger US cities this is TECHNOLOGICALLY IMPOSSIBLE.
You can cut phones etc but there is NO WAY that the USA or any other country can unilaterally cut Satellite links.
Iternet reception via Satellite will STILL be available even after a "Presidential Kill Switch" - unless the USA controls ALL the satellites operating in the "Clarke Belt" - 22,000 mile geostationary orbit over the equator where most Satellites used for communications, TV etc reside - which doesn't even pass over its territory.
I'd demand some refund of your taxes if your politicians are wasting time on this junk.
Cheers

Mind you this "Internet Kill Switch" thing is wildly misrepresented. That is just what everyone latched onto. It's like with the health care bill where there was an outcry because there was supposedly a panel to decide end-of-life care. I wanted to post the synopsis form that website that had an error serving me my error. There is a 194 page pdf file that god knows I do not want to read! I will verify that Nancy Pelosi did say on television, more than one station. Just sign the bill you will have time to read it later. Well there trying to slip another bill through before anybody can read it. Quote: like getting the global economy moving again. The point is,, bring Marxisim (or god forbid, Sharia) to everyone
And Quote: supposedly a panel to decide end-of-life care. And yes,, there are Death Panels in that bill. Along with Rationing. Yes, they are actually one in the same.
It is unsustainable without Rationing and Death Panels. When someone can prove to me otherwise when 47% of Americans do not pay a single dime in taxes and of those a large majority actually get a bundle back? And you are going to sustain Socialised Health Care... I really only have one thing to say...... | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Self Built OS Win 7 Ultimate 32bit CPU C2D E6600 2.4Ghz Motherboard Intel D965WH Memory 4G Kingston KHX5400D2 Graphics Card EVGA GTX 570 HD SC (012-P3-1573-KR) Sound Card On-Board Monitor(s) Displays Samsung 226BW Screen Resolution 1680 x 1050 PSU Corsair TX750W Case In-Win C589 Cooling Stock Intel Cooling Hard Drives 2 x 250 Seagate Barracuda
