IE9 Races for Fastest Browsers in the World Spot with Chrome, Firefox, Opera and Safari.

Performance-wise, the release of Platform Preview 3 Build 1.9.7.8.74.6000 has brought Internet Explorer 9 (IE9) closer than ever to the latest versions of Chrome, Opera, Safari and Firefox. It’s clear that with the next generation of Internet Explorer, Microsoft has a real shot at grabbing the world’s fastest browser spot, in the detriment of rival browsers developed by Google, Mozilla, Opera or Apple. But such glory will undoubtedly be short lived, by any standards, as neither Internet Explorer 9, nor any other browser will be capable of achieving a speed advantage sufficiently comfortable to allow it to maintain the lead for a longer period of time.

Then again, this aspect matters little to all interested parties, from browser vendors, to users, web and add-on developers, etc. Google, Mozilla, Opera, Safari and even Microsoft have used various opportunities to applaud the performance of their respective browsers over that of rivals, enjoying different levels of credibility. It is after all an ongoing race, much like the overall evolution of browsers.

The Redmond company has the toughest job of all rivals in bringing to the public conclusions of its own measuring contests in which IE comes on top of its competitors. The software giant’s comparison of browser speed done for IE8, using real-world scenarios, put IE9’s predecessor on top of Chrome 1.0 and Firefox 3.5 in early 2009. But I remember a range of user feedback that expressed skepticism of Microsoft’s findings.

First of all, thank you very much for the news JMH :)

Secondly, I am a huge fan of Microsoft. It is very obvious that Redmond Company has a lot of plans for 2009-2010 which started with Windows 7. I am quite interested in IE 9 but I do not think I will be switching to it as, for instance, IE does not support add-ons. Well, it may support some alternatives but it is not like in Firefox. Even Chrome is not that advanced. I love the speed of Chrome. But, is it really that important how fast a browser starts up? In my opinion, I would prefer a browser which does everything the way I want. Of course, this is what I think :)

Chrome does now have extensions and they are expanding daily. You can get many of the same addons for Firefox as extensions for Chrome. Firefox is a great browser and I used it for a long time and still do from time to time, but in my opinion Chrome has surpassed Firefox. I am hopeful that Firefox 4 will take the crown back, but it is a wait and see type thing.

Each and everyone is entitled to their own opinion and i respect yours. I am no way bashing. I am just giving my opinion on the matter.

    Interesting article, thanks JMH.

Looks like IE9 will be in the race, about time.

I hope there is a revolving "Fastest Browser" competition from now on.

It gives us something to talk about

Unfortunately, I doubt FF 4 will be re-taking any crowns. Neither will IE9, but neither will be going anywhere any time soon.

One thing that is forgotten amidst all these 'browser wars' is that all of them are continually improving and we are literally becoming spoilt for choice.

And that can only be a good thing.
