Why so little buzz surrounding Windows 7?

You're right about the OEM problems but that's the manufactures (HP, Gateway) doing not MS's. Too many people point the blame at MS when they don't deserve it. I for one will be buying a full retail 64-bit Windows 7 Ultimate as soon as it becomes available.

No - making the OEM license *only* available to OEMs makes sense - making it available to System Builders does not.

I would also bet that 90% of those 90% don't give a rat's derriere. When they need a new computer they'll go buy a new computer with another OS on it - they won't care about keeping their current OS or anything like that unless they keep the entire computer....

And Ol Gramps would not care as he would buy a *new* machine with a new OS on it - the old one could rot for all he cared.

As for getting a new hotdog computer *and* retail OS - buy both.

I *seriously* doubt that an OEM is going to discount the retail price of an OS - very very little incentive for them to do so, even if they did offer them - so why worry about it? If you don't want to invest the time to build your system, local shops can build one for you. If you prefer to buy a machine from a large scale manufacturer like HP or Dell, go out and buy a separate OS if you think you're going to want to sell it later....

Hello again.

I started with an HP media center, right at a year ago; that came pre-loaded with Vista 32-bit Home Premium. It no longer even closely resembles the machine I started out with. The first thing I did was take it from 3GB of RAM to 4GB; then I added a video card and upgraded the power supply. Then about two weeks ago I added a second 500GB HDD. Last week I Upgraded to Vista 64-bit Ultimate. Today actually; I just purchased 8GB of RAM to add to it (the max the mobo will run) and that will be added when it arrives this coming week.

Now all that wasn't meant to be "all about me" but it was meant to show that these additions are possible with some know how; and if you don't have that, as I didn't when I started, spend time around these forums and ask questions, as I have and do your homework. These things aren't really that hard to do. I'm well aware Rome wasn't built in a day; it has taken me a year to get here from there.

If you never start though, you'll never arrive.

i completely agree 100% on this one
(from now on i will refer endusers as regular users meaning with no techincal expertise...)


the enduser wont care as long as it works and does what he wants...
to them speed is a relative term meaning if they can play their favorite videos(HD or not) if they can be protected (unobtrusive AV/FW) and at the same time have a few IE tabs (if they updated to 7 or to the 8 beta (very very unlikely) and remember we are talking about endusers...
as long as it works and works well they dont care if Windows included Hyper-V (just thought of it)
they will eventually care but right now only people that actually know what Hyper-V is and what it does (i believe all in this forum know... ) will actually use it....
just my opinion.....
