I can confirm that on my windows 7 x64 PC and XP x86 PC, both with the beta version of MSE, that there is no "Scan with Microsoft Security Essential" right click menu option. I tried several different file types and it's not there. Also on both PCs the MSE Icon is missing from the taskbar. Once I went back to the non beta version the right click menu "scan with" option was back. The taskbar icon was also back on the XP PC. I had to use the Pin To Taskbar option to get it back on my win 7 PC. I'll be going back to the non beta version on all my PCs. I consider this beta version a "fail".
I have not had it leave the taskbar yet. I think I'm still going to stick with it for the time being.
Looked on the MS website. The lack of the context menu option is a slight bug where a certain DLL does not run. Open an elevated command prompt Run the following command: regsvr32 "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Security Client\shellext.dll"
Here is the link to where I found the fix: http://social.answers.microsoft.com/...e-6b7923f5a60f

I don't know if it factors into this or not (missing right click menu option), but when I went to the beta I let it do an upgrade. Going back I un-installed the beta before installing the non beta MSE.
I don't think it would make a difference, although MS.com does recommend removing ANY antivirus program on the computer before installing. I think we have just found our first bug with it. Otherwise, it seems to run fine.
I got it downloaded last night ok. I used to use this when it 1st came out, then went back to Norton 4.0. My concerns were that MSE never, ever found 1 problem in about 6 months of usage. After I installed my Norton back on there it was catching stuff for sure. This kinda concerns me????
I will wait and see if the Beta catches anything. MSE actually takes up more RAM than my Norton did?
