New Windows 7 logo revealed? Leaked box shots and a closed Microsoft-only FaceBook group reveal what appears to be the new look of Windows 7. Quote: As an army of programmers and testers hammer away on Windows 7 in one part of Microsoft’s sprawling Redmond HQ, a smaller team of designers and graphic artists are already in high gear for the impending Windows 7 marketing assault.
It’s a salvo that will begin before the new OS launches around October and continue in varying degrees and forms until Windows 8 arrives some three years hence.
First up is a new brand identify for Windows 7 which reaches beyond the jewel-like Windows logo itself. This appears to have been finalised as a stylished chevron with the now-mandatory lens flare effect.
The logo was first sighted on Windows 7 retail box shots leaked at the start of this week by Polish Web site Centrum XP. While initially suspected as being fan-created fakes, some detective work by Aussie blogger Long Zheng uncovered an invitation-only ‘ Windows Lounge’ Facebook group restricted to Microsoft employees. That has took a small team of designers and graphic artists? Well it really must of exhausted their collective imagination.
I also do not think it will be the end product, in fact I think it's a doodle that has escaped from the toilets. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Custom Build. This logo looks more like something made by an enthusiast rather than a professional, unless Microsoft decided to really cut costs in this time or crisis. | My System Specs | | |

That's horrible.
If they seriously want to attract people into buying this, I don't think they will use that for marketing. Not clear enough and too bright. Irritating almost. With all the anticipation and build up to the release, so many people are used to seeing the circle logo that it wouldn't now make sense to change it!
We shall see.
Won't stop me buying it when it comes out though! lol. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Self Built OS Windows 7 Ultimate x64 CPU AMD Phenom II x4 965 Motherboard Gigabyte Memory 8Gb Corsair XMS3 DDR3 Graphics Card Asus EN9600GT 512Mb DDR3 Fanless Sound Card Integrated Monitor(s) Displays Belinea 22" LCD (Primary) and HP 19" LCD (secondary) Screen Resolution 1680 x 1050 / 1440 x 900 Keyboard Saitek USB Illuminated Mouse Optical Wireless/Batteryless Mouse PSU 800w Silent Case Nifty looking Midi Case Cooling 3 x Super Cooling Quiet Case Fans. Hi there
The biggest market for Windows 7 will be businesses. They want stuff to look professional and maybe a little bit "Old fashioned and boring".
Things like facebook etc give an impression of "Pimply geeky teenness" which isn't really an image one wants to sell to big business.
I know there are some 90 year olds etc using facebook but the general perception - even if wrong is that these type of sites are really the province of "The Ipod Generation".
Cheers

Hey hey, why all the logo hate? Honestly, I think it convey what windows 7 is perfectly from an artistic standpoint, although I don't know whether it is real or not obviously.
Honestly, its obvious they're going to highlight the "7", how much more can they actually do with a 7? I think a "Bolder" larger Seven would not represent the OS at all... 7 isn't an incredibly bold operating. It's an operating system that's pretty and is just there. It flows nicely. Also, the exclusion of the word "Windows" in the logo further helps differentiate the product from vista and all the negativity.
Personally, I can't see the logo being much better. This would also fit their logon screen design scheme. The logo is simple, and it works, like the OS =P.
I think that logo will probably be used moreso for packaging and the like though. Not for like TV ads. For those I expect it to maybe incorporate this design somehow through some light ray animations, but also include the word "Windows" in there somewhere, just so they know its an operating system.
Also, "bright" is kinda Microsoft's thing right now. I mean, have you not seen the 7 Shell UI and logon screen? It's all uber bright XD.
Ahh i really wish MS would include more Aero themes, like for window borders and such. That would truly help it differentiate the product.
EDIT: OH SNAP
Haha, I just noticed that if you look closely, you'll see that the 7 in the logo is pretty much in the exact shape of one of the corners of the flag in the Windows logo XD. That's quite the smart design touch. Lol this makes me think even more now that it's official. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Compaq CQ50-107NR OS Windows 7 Build 7077 x64 CPU AMD Athlon Dual Core QL-60 - 1.9Ghz Memory 2GB Graphics Card NVIDIA GeForce 8200 M G Screen Resolution 1280 x 800 Hard Drives 120GB, Not sure of RPM but prolly 5400 or lower. |
