CPU overclocking & heat If you look at my system specs you will see my CPU.
My max core temps are about 200*F. On a stead idle, my CPU should only be going around 100-115*F. Well, last night, having my chill mat, and usb hub plugged in (with a usb monitor and portable hard drive plugged into the hub) my CPU was at 183*F, and I'm really wondering why.. and now, even at an idle, it runs about 138-155*F, and I'm just trying to figure out why... does anyone know what might be going on?
Yes, I know I need a new laptop, but that's out of my budget.. | My System Specs |

Can you put that in C? No one measures those temps in F.
How do you know what your Idle temps should be?

Because that's what it used to idle at...
So, in C...
it has a max of 90*C
It should idle around 46*C
Last night it was at 84*C
Tonight it's at 67*C | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number HP Pavilion dv4i-2100 OS Windows 7 Ultimate x86 CPU Intel Core i3 M350 @ 2.27 GHz Motherboard Stock Memory 3.00 GB Graphics Card Intel 1GB HDMI Graphics Card Sound Card Stock Monitor(s) Displays 14.6" HD Screen Resolution 1200x800 current setting. On my *first* DV9000, the processor overheated, and stayed hotter than normal, leading to a system failure. This may or may not be your case, but is what happened in mine, though I hit around 130C on the core temp. Also, on the DV series notebooks, the fan is almost directly connected to the processor heatsink, and excessive heat on the heatsink could have screwed up your fan. What's the RPM at? | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Pugh Technologies OS W7 Professional x64 CPU AMD Athlon II X3 445 Rana 3.10 GHz Motherboard MSI 870A-G54 Memory PNY XLR DDR3 1600 4x2GB Graphics Card NVIDIA GeForce GTS 450 (fermi) 1GB GDDR5 Sound Card Realtek ALC892 onboard Monitor(s) Displays ASUS VE205t, Viewsonic VX2035WM Screen Resolution 1600x900, 1600x1050 Keyboard Logitec 55 Mouse Razer Deathadder PSU Antec EarthWatts EA650 650W Case ThermalTake Armor A90 Mid Tower Cooling 3x 120mm in, 1x 120mm & 200mm out, self built hydro-cooler Hard Drives 977GB Hitachi Hitachi HDS721010CLA332

How do I view the RPM's??? Though my fan does seem to work well, since last night it was whistling away like a siren. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number HP Pavilion dv4i-2100 OS Windows 7 Ultimate x86 CPU Intel Core i3 M350 @ 2.27 GHz Motherboard Stock Memory 3.00 GB Graphics Card Intel 1GB HDMI Graphics Card Sound Card Stock Monitor(s) Displays 14.6" HD Screen Resolution 1200x800 current setting. Not sure... task manager, speedfan, and hwmonitor all don't show my fan speeds.. I know my fan works because it runs quite a bit. I am just unable to view the speeds. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number HP Pavilion dv4i-2100 OS Windows 7 Ultimate x86 CPU Intel Core i3 M350 @ 2.27 GHz Motherboard Stock Memory 3.00 GB Graphics Card Intel 1GB HDMI Graphics Card Sound Card Stock Monitor(s) Displays 14.6" HD Screen Resolution 1200x800 current setting. It might not be hooked up that way. If it's working properly as far as you can tell, we've reached the end of my technical knowledge and I will have to pass the torch. Don't know of any other programs to suggest, but have you tried blowing out the ports with canned compresed air? Laptops especially older ones tend to have a great deal of build up of fibers and dust due to user using them on their laps or other cloth or fiber surfaces.
I'm pretty sure if you were to take it apart you would be amazed at how much dust ect is built up inside of it.
