i'm using a E8400 chip and asus motherboard (p5q pro turbo) . what should the tjmax in real temp be set to i have it at 95 now .
thanks for your help

I believe it is because BIOS doesn't measure the core temps like Real Temp does. It measures the CPU temp. I think CPU temp will always be lower than the core temps? Also, differences in programs will do that. Intel said that Tjmax was 100, but they also said these sensors are incredibly inaccurate and get worse the further you go from Tjmax.
The RealTemp documentation outlines how you can calibrate your sensors to get more accurate idle temps.

This is a somewhat hazy area but may be a intel/amd thing. On intel processors, core temps are reported higher than cpu temps while on amd's (at least certain amd's) its the reverse. Starting with the Phenoms, AMD's sensor no longer reports an absolute temperature anymore, but a reading with a certain offset, which is unknown. It is estimated that this offset is between 10 - 15c.
Also different motherboards have sensors placed somewhat differently. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Too many to describe... OS Windows 7 x64 pro/ Windows 7 x86 Pro/ XP SP3 x86 |

Also different motherboards have sensors placed somewhat differently. That's right. For AMD CPUs, the CPU temp is taken directly from the mobo sensor. High -- Low Interesting subject. Only familiar with Intel. Core temps run about 8 -- 10 deg higher than CPU temp. I am trying to imagine why "core" temps would run lower. If the word core can be related to inside then they would run warmer as the skin is losing heat at a faster rate. I am going to have find something to read on that. I had never gave it much thought. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number BGC (Bob's Garage Crew) OS win 7 X64 Ultimate SP1 CPU I3770K Motherboard Asus P8Z77-V Deluxe Memory G Skill F3-14900CL9-4GBXL x 4 Graphics Card NVIDIA GeForce GTX670 + Intel 4000 Sound Card Realtek HD 5.1 (MOB) Monitor(s) Displays Asus VW224T (1) Screen Resolution 1920 x 1080 Keyboard MS Wireless 3000 V2 Mouse MS Wireless 3000 V2 PSU CoolerMaster 1000 Watt Case CoolerMaster HAF X Cooling CPU -- CoolerMaster 520N Hard Drives SATA Corsair Force GT 2.5" 180GB (System) Sata 3

CPU Temp After some reading on the I7 900 series. It seems to me there is only one DTS on board the chip. A single wire (Trace) and a dedicated pin for output. The signal is analog converted to digital. I guess all the core readings, etc. are "voodoo" determined by some math calc.
AMD could be reporting the distance to Tmax which would give a lower reading than skin?

could the reason for the difference in temperature simply be that the computer is not under any load in bios, but after booting the OS, and the background process's running, there is a now a load? | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number HP dv6519tx OS Windows 7 Ultimate x64 CPU 1.80 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor T7100 Memory 3 gig ddr2 Graphics Card NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GS Sound Card Realtek High Definition Audio Monitor(s) Displays 15.4” WXGA High Definition BrightView Widescreen Screen Resolution 1280 x 800 Keyboard 101 key compatible Mouse Touch Pad with On/Off button and dedicated vertical Scroll PSU 90 W AC Power Adapter Cooling Kitchen plate under the lappy Hard Drives Hitachi 320 GB (5400 rpm) Internet Speed Three Wireless internet prepaid using E160G USB dongle |

The AMD temperature reading could read lower, as the motherboard might absorb heat, while the cores are in direct contact with the case, which offers cooling? | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Pugh Technologies OS W7 Professional x64 CPU AMD Athlon II X3 445 Rana 3.10 GHz Motherboard MSI 870A-G54 Memory PNY XLR DDR3 1600 4x2GB Graphics Card NVIDIA GeForce GTS 450 (fermi) 1GB GDDR5 Sound Card Realtek ALC892 onboard Monitor(s) Displays ASUS VE205t, Viewsonic VX2035WM Screen Resolution 1600x900, 1600x1050 Keyboard Logitec 55 Mouse Razer Deathadder PSU Antec EarthWatts EA650 650W Case ThermalTake Armor A90 Mid Tower Cooling 3x 120mm in, 1x 120mm & 200mm out, self built hydro-cooler Hard Drives 977GB Hitachi Hitachi HDS721010CLA332
