Solved Underclocking cpu

I hope not, but you could have put the processor in wrong. Are you sure you lined up the gold tips on the processor correctly?

It's not the paste that's causing it to shut down within 5 seconds. Even if you have too much or not enough, or dysfunctional fans, it would take longer than that to heat up and shut itself down.

You may need to check if you have bent some pins on the processor. They can be straightend, VERY CAREFULLY, if you have. I did that one time on an older model processor, but to be honest, I can't remember if the computer even booted.

Edit: Okay, just now read your last post. So it is running, then? Apparently the processor is okay. The temp is still a little higher than normal, but not near as bad as when you started the post.

One thing to remember, whenever you break the seal of the heatsink and thermal paste, you need to re-apply rather than just putting it back on.

I would recommend at the very least spreading the paste evenly again before fitting the fan. If it was removed and no more was added there could be air pockets between the CPU and heat sink especially given the sometimes tricky alignment of a Pentium cooling assembly.

Right now im stressing the cpu and ram using ORTHOS and its sitting at around 68C as opposed to the 90C and shutoff it was doing yesterday. Do you reckon i should just leave it as it is or check the thermal paste again ? Don't really want too check again incase it starts heating up again.

Personally I never break apart a CPU and cooler without fully cleaning and re applying the paste.

i'd also check your voltage settings in your bios just to be sure something didn't get changed somehow. high voltage will cause high temps .

You can easily in your bios set everything to default that should eliminate the voltage problem.

But if your system ran at 90c then shut off and you continued to try and run it over and over till you finally cleaned off the thermal compound then replaced everything and your still getting fluctuating temps. you could have damaged your CPU worst case scenario.

Computer is now working perfectly =)
Problem was the thermo paste.
