I wont say you can not do it, i have done it once or twice in my life and it has been an interesting experience to say the least. Before looking at replacing the thermal paste, i would have to ask, why you would want to do that in the first place? Are you having heat issues? | My System Specs | | OS Windows 7 Professional x64 Backtrack 4 R2 CPU Intel Core i5-650 Motherboard Gigabyte P55-UD3 Memory 4 GB Geil PC3 12800 Graphics Card HIS HD 4870 X2 Sound Card Sound Blaster X-Fi Titanium Fatal1ty Champion Monitor(s) Displays BenQ 22" G2220HD Keyboard Microsoft SideWinder X6 Mouse Razer Abyssus PSU Antec High Current Gamer 620W Power Supply Case Thermaltake Armor+ MX Hard Drives Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 500GB

Hi Clinkz,
Well I am going to have the laptop open for a cleaning on the fan and be replaceing the wifi card to a 5ghz compadible one. I dont have any heating issues currently 38 on one core and 42 on the other, so I will probally put what you said into consideration. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Sony Vaio VPCEB24FD OS Windows 7 Ultimate x64 CPU Intel Core i3 350M Motherboard Stock Foxxcon Board with American Megatrend BIOS Memory 4GB Kingston DDR3 1033 Laptop Ram + 6GB Readyboost Graphics Card ATI Mobile Graphics, Intel(R) HD Graphics (Battery Power) Sound Card Realtek Sound Driver Monitor(s) Displays Generic PnP Monitor Screen Resolution 1366 x 768 Keyboard Backlit "Chicklet" Ketboard Mouse ALPS Touch Pad/Microsoft Wireless Mobile Mouse 3000 PSU SONY Case Bright Blue Stock Case Cooling Panasonic Heatsink Fan & No-Name Cooling Pad Hard Drives 500 GB Western Digital Scorpio Blue SATA Drive

I completely agree with Clinkz. Even more when you mention those temps... assuming they are measured when you're not idle That doesn't look like a reason to me...
It IS a very smart move however, to take the opportunity to give your system a good clean. Use a air pressure cannister meant for the job for that... | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number custom build OS Windows 7 64b Ultimate CPU I7-2600 3.40GHz - testing various OC levels.. Also look into a good cooling pad with fan or a stand like I've just gone to. Combine this with a great wireless keyboard and mouse and it's the bomb diggity ! | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number A blend of brains, brawn and dumb luck ! Yeah those temps are pretty good, you really shouldn't need to touch the paste at all, its a big hassle to do it anyway. Also, if you were experiencing head issues, my first step would be to get a cooling pad like linnemeyerhere suggested. | My System Specs | | OS Windows 7 Professional x64 Backtrack 4 R2 CPU Intel Core i5-650 Motherboard Gigabyte P55-UD3 Memory 4 GB Geil PC3 12800 Graphics Card HIS HD 4870 X2 Sound Card Sound Blaster X-Fi Titanium Fatal1ty Champion Monitor(s) Displays BenQ 22" G2220HD Keyboard Microsoft SideWinder X6 Mouse Razer Abyssus PSU Antec High Current Gamer 620W Power Supply Case Thermaltake Armor+ MX Hard Drives Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 500GB

If your current WIFI card is 2.4 GHz only, its likely your built in Antennas are single band also. If so they will not work very well, if at all, on the 5 GHz band. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Me :) It's a model No. 3.1415926 OS Windows 7 Ultimate AMD64 CPU AMD Phenom II X4 980 Black Edition Deneb 3.7GHz Motherboard Asus M4N68T-M V2 µATX Motherboard Memory 8GB 4GBx2 Kingston PC10600 DDR3 1333 Memory Graphics Card BFG NVIDIA Geforce 220GT 1 Gig DDR2 PCIe Sound Card VIA VT1708s High Definition Audio 8-channel Onboard Monitor(s) Displays 2 x 19" I-INC AG191D TFT Flat Panel Screen Resolution 1280x1024 x 2 Keyboard Logitech Internet 600 Mouse Logitech Wireless Trackman Wheel PSU Extreme ATX 450 Watt Model No. RSY-645 Case Power Up Black ATX Mid-Tower Case Cooling Stock heatsink and fan Hard Drives 500 Gig WesternDigital SATA-300 Drive Internet Speed 20 Mbps Down 1 Mbps Up Other Info HP DVD1040e Lightscribe - External USB2 |

Good point! Maybe he could use a 5Ghz Wifi Expresscard and disable the internal? | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number custom build OS Windows 7 64b Ultimate CPU I7-2600 3.40GHz - testing various OC levels.. USB dongle will work too. My fathers Acer laptop only does G with the built in WIFI. When he's at home where he has an N router he disables the internal and uses an N USB adapter. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Me :) It's a model No. 3.1415926 OS Windows 7 Ultimate AMD64 CPU AMD Phenom II X4 980 Black Edition Deneb 3.7GHz Motherboard Asus M4N68T-M V2 µATX Motherboard Memory 8GB 4GBx2 Kingston PC10600 DDR3 1333 Memory Graphics Card BFG NVIDIA Geforce 220GT 1 Gig DDR2 PCIe Sound Card VIA VT1708s High Definition Audio 8-channel Onboard Monitor(s) Displays 2 x 19" I-INC AG191D TFT Flat Panel Screen Resolution 1280x1024 x 2 Keyboard Logitech Internet 600 Mouse Logitech Wireless Trackman Wheel PSU Extreme ATX 450 Watt Model No. RSY-645 Case Power Up Black ATX Mid-Tower Case Cooling Stock heatsink and fan Hard Drives 500 Gig WesternDigital SATA-300 Drive Internet Speed 20 Mbps Down 1 Mbps Up Other Info HP DVD1040e Lightscribe - External USB2 |
