Windows 7 - Case Fan

Can anyone tell me what is case fan? Which are the benefits? I want to put it on the back of the case, which parts will cool down. Thanks

A case fan is what it says - it's afan for the computer case.

Placing a fan at the back helps the hot air disperse from the rear. Ideally it helps lower the ambient temperature inside the case, cooling the main components like CPU, mobo, GPU etx.

It is to be placed with the air blowing out of the case, not in.

You generally want to place fans near the bottom of the front of the case pulling cool air into the case and then in the upper back portion of the case blowing hot air out of the case.

I would say a case fan is a fan not specifically cooling one certain part but just generally like pparks said

im finding it hard to believe that someone with a PC that has a i5 processor, 4GB RAM, 1TB HDD and a dedicated graphics card does not already have a case fan somewhere.. to me, it sounds as if that case would overheat VERY fast and eventually shut down or destroy the parts. or am i a bit off here?

that said, i agree with what everyone else has said.. its meant for cooling the temp in the case, thus saving your electronics.. low fan in front of case to draw in cooler air, high (or middle) fan in rear of case to draw out the hot air.. cable management within the case will help with that airflow as well

Case fans can always fall into two categories...intake and exhaust. As pparks1 said, you generally want low front fans pulling cool air in, and higher rear fans venting out the hot air. They aren't generally meant to cool just one component, although many cases mount the hard drives right behind the front intake fans. They are mainly intended to keep good air flow through out the case, to keep the hot air circulating out, while replacing it with cooler air.
