Windows 7: 920 core temps, am I safe?

OC'd from 2.67 to 4.61, ran all the stress tests, FLAWLESS.



One thing that concerns me is the temperature of the cores under load.
Idle = 45 °C on all 4.
Load = 75 °C on all 4.

Steady, no changes. BTW, never a crash (program, windows), weirdness, or any anomalies.

Thoughts?

75C is too hot for a processor. You should underclock it until your load temp is around 60.

I agree....that is a little on the high side. While it might be stable now, running at that temp for a long period of time could decrease the life of your processor.

Too high, better back that down.

My personal opinion is 65C, give or take a couple, at a full load.
And by full load, I mean under a artificial stress, such as Prime.

This means in a real world 100% load, 55-60C will be your MAX.


I too agree, 75C load is too high. Especially for 24/7 use.
I would back it down, or implement a better cooling solution.

I agree with wishmaster, I always aim for a max of 65c under full stress test load.

75c is ok if you were just running it at 4.6ghz for benchmarking and stuff.

But for a 24/7 I would imagine 4ghz would get you some nice safe temps.

Do Not Overclock!

If you want a faster processor, get one.

Overclocking is just asking for problems.

If you want to fight all odds, then at least get yourself a monster-sized cooler for the processor to get the temps down some.

The only thing that is saving you right now is that modern processor will throttle themselves to keep the temps from getting astronomical.

I have to disagree with you here Karl, this is after all the overclocking and mod section!

Overclocking if researched and done properly is both fun and safe.

I agree with you on the cooling, but I am pretty sure he already has some good cooling based on his temps at 4.6ghz, he just needs to back it down a bit.

I have run processors for years overclocked without issues.

Please don't take my comments the wrong way, I don't want to start a debate, just defending us overclockers a little

It would appear that those temps are core readings, since you mention 4 of them. I assume that you are getting those readings from Core Temp, and if so, it gives TjMax for that processor in the gadget GUI. The maximum temperature published by AMD for that processor is 62 degrees Tcase, which should never be exceeded either. If the lifespan of the processor matters to you, then you need a temperature even below that. I would run it at least 20 degrees below either value.

The Tjmax for the 920 is around 100c and the Tcase is around 69c
