hd6850 failed to oc at all hi all
i recently tried to oc my xfx hd6850 n failed. thing is all i had done was up the core clock by 15mhz in 3 steps of 5mhz.
playing deus ex it was runnin ok but within a few mins of bfbc2 online it crashed. i had to hit the reset button on my case. couldnt alt tab or cntrl, alt, delete.
i would of thought it would oc more as the reviews ive read mostly say its a good overclocker.
any ideas? or hav i just got a poor overclocker?

Could be a number of things Check the Pci Latency timer if it is set to 32 or 64 /96 or 128
If it is above 32 bring it back to 32 Also if you have a Oc'ed CPU if could have a effect on the Gpu remember these things go hand and hand when gaming the system relies on the cpu just as much as the Gpu
This was the case when i tuned my then Hd 5770 kept crashing the Latency was to high
But if that doesnt work try it in another system try to incress the clock if it crashes again then your card is where it is
I would probally look into swapping it out in case before it could turn bad
But ussually Overclocking can conflict a couple pieces of hardware if not done correctly | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Built by me Bulldozer series Generation FX OS Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit sp1 CPU BullDozer 8120-30p Oc'ed BE 4.5Ghz 1.44 V-core Motherboard MSI 990FXA-GD80 Memory 8 Gigs of Corsair Vengeance Ram 1600mhz-Oc'ed 1760 Mhz Graphics Card Radeon Diamond Hd 6870 1gb Msi Twin frozer Hd6870 1gb X-fire Sound Card THX tru souround sound audio Monitor(s) Displays 22" envision 1050dp hdmi 37in vizio hdmi dual monitors Screen Resolution 1680x1050 22"- 1920x1080 37" Keyboard Logitech wireless keyboard Mouse Logitech wireless mouse PSU AX850w Corsair Gold 80plus certified crosfire/sli Case 2-CoolerMaster Elite 371 Yes same case for 2 different Pc's Cooling Antec 620 Water cooling system and 4 120 mm LED fans Hard Drives Corsair 80 Gb SSD Seagate baracuda 500 Gb WD Mybook 500Gb Internet Speed Cable 20+ mb Other Info I have 2 systems Bulldozer AM3+ 8120-30P Oc'ed 4.5Ghz AM2+ 925 deneb 2.8 to 3.2 Ghz Both stable Both Gaming Rigs Diamond/MSI HD 6870 1Gb X-fire and Diamond HD5770 1Gb Also Hp Notebook 1.65 ghz Dual core amd E-450 8gb Patriot Ram DDR3 Discrete Gpu Hd6320 dedicated ram 1973 mb 15.5 screen |

Honestly I think it is the MB that holds you back same chip different board
My wall was 3.6 as well till i changed the board ,I could actually get a 4.1 out of this chip but it isn't worth it | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Built by me Bulldozer series Generation FX OS Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit sp1 CPU BullDozer 8120-30p Oc'ed BE 4.5Ghz 1.44 V-core Motherboard MSI 990FXA-GD80 Memory 8 Gigs of Corsair Vengeance Ram 1600mhz-Oc'ed 1760 Mhz Graphics Card Radeon Diamond Hd 6870 1gb Msi Twin frozer Hd6870 1gb X-fire Sound Card THX tru souround sound audio Monitor(s) Displays 22" envision 1050dp hdmi 37in vizio hdmi dual monitors Screen Resolution 1680x1050 22"- 1920x1080 37" Keyboard Logitech wireless keyboard Mouse Logitech wireless mouse PSU AX850w Corsair Gold 80plus certified crosfire/sli Case 2-CoolerMaster Elite 371 Yes same case for 2 different Pc's Cooling Antec 620 Water cooling system and 4 120 mm LED fans Hard Drives Corsair 80 Gb SSD Seagate baracuda 500 Gb WD Mybook 500Gb Internet Speed Cable 20+ mb Other Info I have 2 systems Bulldozer AM3+ 8120-30P Oc'ed 4.5Ghz AM2+ 925 deneb 2.8 to 3.2 Ghz Both stable Both Gaming Rigs Diamond/MSI HD 6870 1Gb X-fire and Diamond HD5770 1Gb Also Hp Notebook 1.65 ghz Dual core amd E-450 8gb Patriot Ram DDR3 Discrete Gpu Hd6320 dedicated ram 1973 mb 15.5 screen |
