AMD A6-3400M QuadCore 1.4Ghz Overclocking Hello,
just wanted to ask, if anyone by any chance has tried overclocking the new AMD's A6-3400M QuadCore 1.4Ghz. I've read somewhere that it can easily be set up to go 2.1 or even 2.3Ghz. I have never done any overclocking myself, so I'd also like to know which program or where in BIOS can this be done and are there any risks inlvolved.. its a new laptop so I do go overclocking only if its a safe thing to do.
PS. I've also read that this processor has in reality been underclocked.. to cut on voltage, power consumption, so essentially its a 'natural candidate'.

Most laptops are set up with no ability to be overclocked......It will also void any warranty......It will cause more heat, and possibly damage the system....also if you must overclock until you fill out your system spec's no one can give you any more specific advice.... | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number homemade OS windows 7 ultimate 64 bit CPU amd x4 965 Hyper 212 plus 2 120mm 90cfm fans Motherboard Biostar A770E3 Memory 12 gig 4Gx2/2Gx2 Mushkin DDR3 1333 Graphics Card Sapphire 5850 Monitor(s) Displays hanns g 1680X1050 Screen Resolution 1680x1050 Keyboard z merc Mouse microsoft wireless 5000 PSU dual Antec 650 & Rosewill 530 watt continuous Case homemade Cooling 4 120mm@50cfm each/2 120mm@90cfm Hard Drives western digital ssd 64 gig + 2 junk Internet Speed dsl |

For this model at least people many people are doing it, without issues, I think the program they all use is K10Stats, but I'd like to hear out all the options before starting anything.
Heres one quote of someone who has done it easily !
Quote:
"Alright guys, these are my last run messing with clock settings. I believe these are the best ones out of all the ones I tested, depending on your need and what temperature you want. It seems to be stable, no BSOD or what so ever. It's from 1.8 GHz to 2.3 GHz. Seeing how 2.3 GHz already reach to 71*C, 2.4 GHz should be around 73*C.
If anyone wants to try 2.4 GHz, just test it with this settings at P0.

PS. As I said before, this one is the brand new(June 2011.) Llano type AMD processor, in all the cpu websites & benchmarks its described with having the ability to be boosted to 2.3GHz, all I need to know is how to turn on the Turbo / Boost it.... AMD A6-Series A6-3400M AM3400DDX43GX
"The A6-3400M, manufactured on 32nm process, comes with four CPU cores, and has 128 KB level 1 and 1 MB level 2 caches per each core. The microprocessor runs at 1.4 GHz, although the new Turbo core feature can boost this frequency to 2.3 GHz when some cores are non-operational. The A6-3400M employs standard set of K10 instruction set extensions up to SSE3 / SSE4A, and common technologies, like AMD64 and Virtualization."
But then again I might need no overclocking at all... if the following is true, this processor might even have self-overclocking built in, heres one of the answers I've found ::
"turbo core is a technology built into the cpu itself that overclocks one or two cores for more performance when the other two or three cores are not being used.
the technology is already active, you don't need to activate it." | My System Specs

As mentioned by Ivan the So So I would steer wide of the laptop overclock. Laptops have minimal capacity for cooling and it's not like you can fit water cooling to them or a dual fan massive air cooler. Even setting them on a forced air cooler only slightly improves temps but nowhere near what's needed for a strong over clock. So what you are left with is at best a slight over clock with more voltage/heat flowing through the mobo and cpu and a doubtful increase in performance. Now when you get into a desktop system then lets talk but till then, IMHO just leave the settings alone and keep it's HDD clean and defrag'd. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number A blend of brains, brawn and dumb luck ! I'll leave it be for the time beeing, with the turbo boost built in and everything hopefully I might not need overclocking after all.. Most importantly I haven't even tested it, if the system shows itself well in audio mixing and mastering, with plenty of VSTs, tracks & plugins.. plus the HD video rendering.. if all that works smoothly, fast enough & without CPU hitting the rooftop, then its good enough for me ! | My System Specs

Ok I'm just a mechanic
but I didn't post my email on a open forum.....
I didn't necro post in a thread where the OP hasn't logged on since 1 November.....
When the guy maxed out his card I didn't call him stupid....
Overclocking WILL void the warranty....
If someone pays for a computer then they deserve it....It not a puppy....
He was told not to max his card out, but somehow he missed that part......but nobody that wants to stay here called him stupid.....

Ivan sometimes the simpliest advice gets mis concieved
As for the guy who posted his personal offerings should have known better in the first place
We have private messaging for a reason im not in anyway or form saying he should imply his fixes to the OP they simple won't have the same results
I myself have had a few mistakes here but i've learned i think sometimes people need to learn a little more about the FORUM they post on cause most of the one's i been on and seen not just PC forums but all have rules and regulations
I think all new members should be reminded first and then if it is a constant happening then they deserve to get BANNED
I'm also sure he got warned but was to COCKY to take it seriously | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Built by me Bulldozer series Generation FX OS Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit sp1 CPU BullDozer 8120-30p Oc'ed BE 4.5Ghz 1.44 V-core Motherboard MSI 990FXA-GD80 Memory 8 Gigs of Corsair Vengeance Ram 1600mhz-Oc'ed 1760 Mhz Graphics Card Radeon Diamond Hd 6870 1gb Msi Twin frozer Hd6870 1gb X-fire Sound Card THX tru souround sound audio Monitor(s) Displays 22" envision 1050dp hdmi 37in vizio hdmi dual monitors Screen Resolution 1680x1050 22"- 1920x1080 37" Keyboard Logitech wireless keyboard Mouse Logitech wireless mouse PSU AX850w Corsair Gold 80plus certified crosfire/sli Case 2-CoolerMaster Elite 371 Yes same case for 2 different Pc's Cooling Antec 620 Water cooling system and 4 120 mm LED fans Hard Drives Corsair 80 Gb SSD Seagate baracuda 500 Gb WD Mybook 500Gb Internet Speed Cable 20+ mb Other Info I have 2 systems Bulldozer AM3+ 8120-30P Oc'ed 4.5Ghz AM2+ 925 deneb 2.8 to 3.2 Ghz Both stable Both Gaming Rigs Diamond/MSI HD 6870 1Gb X-fire and Diamond HD5770 1Gb Also Hp Notebook 1.65 ghz Dual core amd E-450 8gb Patriot Ram DDR3 Discrete Gpu Hd6320 dedicated ram 1973 mb 15.5 screen All times are GMT -5.
