Do I need case fans? Opinions on this system? Building this system this weekend. Not much gaming, have gpu fan, cpu fan. Do I really need case fans? Case doesn't come with fans. I am old and hate excess noise!

At the very least, a rear exhaust.
There are plenty of quiet fans available. Some even include resistors so they run @ 5v or 7V to lower the RPM and are virtually inaudible. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Me OS 7 Ultimate x64 CPU i5 2500K 4.7 Ghz Motherboard ASUS P8Z68 Deluxe Gen 3 Memory 8GB G.Skill Ripjaws X 2133mhz Graphics Card Asus GTX 580 DirectCU II Sound Card X-FI Forte 7.1 + ATH-AD900 Headphones Monitor(s) Displays x2 Dell U2410 / 58" Samsung / "40 Sony Screen Resolution 1920*1200 / 1920*1080 Keyboard Topre Realforce // Ducky Shine MX Black // Filco Ninja TKL Mouse Razer Imperator + Razer Lachesis PSU Corsair AX1200W Case Lian Li PC-V1020A Cooling Noctua NH-D14: 3x140mm Gelid Wing 14 : Noctua NF-P12 120mm Hard Drives 2x Intel 520 240GB * Crucial M4 128GB * 2x Samsung F3 1TB (RAID 0) * 2x WD Caviar Blacks 2TB (RAID 0) Other Info Laptop Specs:

I always have at least 1 exhaust fan mounted in the top or the upper back of the case.
Are you dead set on this case? I'd recommend spending $59 on the Antec 300 with Free Shipping from NewEgg; Newegg.com - Antec Three Hundred Black Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case
It has 2 exhaust case fans and dust filters in the front. They are built very well. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Self-Built in July 2009 OS Windows 7 Ultimate x64 CPU Intel Q9550 2.83Ghz OC'd to 3.40Ghz Motherboard Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3R rev. 1.1, F12 BIOS Memory 8GB G.Skill PI DDR2-800, 4-4-4-12 timings Graphics Card EVGA 1280MB Nvidia GeForce GTX570 Sound Card Realtek ALC899A 8 channel onboard audio Monitor(s) Displays 23" Acer x233H Screen Resolution 1920x1080 Keyboard ABS M1 Mechanical Mouse Logitech G9 Laser Mouse PSU Corsair 620HX modular Case Antec P182 Cooling stock Hard Drives Intel X25-M 80GB Gen 2 SSD

It has 2 exhaust case fans and dust filters in the front. They are built very well. Part of a barebones package deal.. Limited funds for this. Have better power supply (almost new) from my old system. Also have fans from old system but don't want to use them if not needed. | My System Specs | | OS Windows 7 Ultimate x64 |

Get fans with built in speed controller like antec 3 speed fans, or noctua fans which have a voltage resistance able which lowers fan speed and obviously fan noise | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Built by badgers!!! They're only like £15 in the UK so I bet they will be even cheaper in $ as the exchange rate plus import tax never goes our way | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Built by badgers!!! from what I see you could mount two 80mm to the rear panel, add one each to both fans a 1 watt adjustable power resistor connected to the 12v or 7v source and adj speed of fan for proper noise level, better then no fan at all. you could just use also one adj power resistor but the watt's handling needs to be higher or it will get warmer running both fans at slower speeds. 80mm do have high noise levels.
Or add a 120mm to the side panel; even if its for 80mm, then add a adj power resistor to control speed | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Workstation for CAD/Photoshop/Electronics OS Windows 7 Pro 64bit CPU i5 2500K 3.3GHz, Cooler Master Hyper N520 Heatpipe Motherboard Supermicro C7P67 Memory 16GB of Kingston HyperX DDR3 1333, Max is 32GB Graphics Card SAPPHIRE Radeon HD 5770 1GB 128-bit GDDR5 Sound Card On Board REALTEK ALC889 7.1 HD Audio with optional S/PDIF Monitor(s) Displays Two eMachine E230H Screen Resolution 1920x1080 Keyboard Logitech 920-000914 USB Wired Ultra-thin Illuminated KB Mouse two/Logitech Trackman Marble/Microsoft Optical Mouse 3000 PSU Tagan BZ Series Modular 800W Case Thermaltake Armor+MX ATX Tower Cooling 1/230mm, 3/120mm Enermax T.B. Hi,
I agree - you should at least have one exhaust fan, ideally mounted at the back of the case. It serves to draw cooler air into the case as well as expelling the warm air generated by the GPU and CPU fans, out of the case.
A simple trick to quieting the fan is to reverse the 5v and 12v lines using a molex to half the RPM of the fan. The larger the fan, the more volume of air it will move at lower RPM's, compared to a smaller fan.

Thanks to all. Appreciate your input. Going to mount the fans and monitor the temps. If I need them they are there. If I don't I'll just disconnect. | My System Specs | | OS Windows 7 Ultimate x64 All times are GMT -5. The time now is 09:24 PM. | |
