Help needed with G.Skill ram timings to get all or most of their speed

Hello,
I'm new to ram overclocking and could use some help and advice. My MSI mobo model #890FXA-GD70 is capable of DDR3 ram to 2133mhz. I had been running Corsair 1333 and recently replaced with 4x4gb G.Skill Rigjaws Z Series.
Model F3-17000CL11Q-16GBZL
DDR3-2133 PC3-1700
CL11-11-11-30
1.6 volt
I'm all eyes & ears as to how to set these up correctly to get all or close to all there potential.

Hey bud,

The 1st thing that is obvious that you need to change is the timings, its rated at 11-11-11-30 but CPU-z shows it currently running at 11-11-11-28.

It will run fine at that at the moment as you are a long way from the correct speed of the ram.

Unfortunatly I don't have any real experience of setting up Ram in AMD systems, I assume its not a straight forward option to simply change the frequency to 2133mhz on your board.

I wish you good luck though.

Paul.

Hey all I just picked up the phone and dialed a local call to the 909 and spoke to G.Skill and they worked me right thru the mobo and bios settings. I'm stable now for my 965BE quad with adjusted timings and all. How great was that ! Support of this type is off the hook valuable and I would highly recommend G.Skill for this lifetime support! Now down the road when I go with a Bulldozer I can just call back and they will work me through closer to these modules 2133 mhz potential. !

Alan, I'm not familar with your board. Does the specs say it will run ram at 2133 (OC)? At stock CPU speed, what is the FSB and Multiplier? Set the timings by the first XMP profile (XMP 2000), and you should set the Dram voltage manually. I would consider setting the dram voltage at 1.65. What options do you have for FSB/Dram ratio? Increase the CPU-NB to 1.2V (stock should be 1.10) Start the attempts with timings of 11-11-11-31 28-2T. You have a BE so you are going to have to find the FSB X Multiplier that works well for the ram and CPU. I may be wrong, but at stock the FSB is 200 X 17? With the settings above for dram try to set FSB to 240 and multiplier to 17. That should put the CPU at 4.08 and the ram at 1600. Do you have an option for dram Frequency in Bios? those settings will just be a start, but if it is stable there we can work it up. Dave76 is the ram expert and will be here later. He can help more than me. But, to me, the settings I gave should be stable assuming my assumptions are correct. The CPU-NB may not be necessary at these levels, but probably will be necessary before you get to 2000.

Well done Alan. I have been through it with G skill also. They are fantastic as is their forum. The tech reps usually answer questions daily, early evening. But, they have an administrator named tradesman who is great. He is not a tech rep but is about as knowledgable as them. And yes, they will help When the Buldozer arrives. I'm not sure if there is better tech support in the computer business, which is why I have G Skill in all my machines. They RMA'd ram for me that I told them there was nothing wrong with, but the board didn't like. They even RMA'd one type ram for another type, which to me, is unheard of. Try out the Forum.

I found that my GSkill RAM performs a lot better at lower frequencies and tighter timings. Something to consider. Can you run Maxxmem and post a screen shot?
