IT sees my gtx580 as a generic 256mb card.
Before that it was seeing it as a intel 3000hd, which is actually okay since I have a sandy bridge mobo that's actually true. I have it, it's just never in use, only the dedicated gtx580

Yeah, I see it shows mine as the intel one too, so not the best benchmark out there...

Unless absolutely everyone is using all identical settings... which we obviously aren't.

My first result up top was this same system with all the benchmark settings actually cranked.
I agree entirely..
my monitor won't even reach the res that you guys are running at..!!

I'm no gamer, but have some questions. What good is it too have a FPS higher than 120, which is the refresh rate of a higher end monitor, most are 60Hz. Movies are filmed at 24 FPS, maybe 30.
So, if your FPS is, say, 500 and your monitor can refresh 120 times per second, wouldn't you only effectively see 4.166 FPS?

No you effectively see about 35fps give or take a few frames per second I see people arguing it all over the net but you can not overcome the way your eye is physically designed...sorry superman.

Most the vast difference people see when visiting their friends with higher priced systems are in fact in the monitors. Better color response, better contrast ratios.
Generally any frame count over around 25 is playable, but I will admit I notice a difference when @60 or higher. I don't think... as most people do that this is because I'm actually seeing the frames, but rather that once you reach this point the card is no longer under so much stress and is simply doing a better job rendering because of it.

the (8.97 18th April) BETA driver over at Guru3d gives some good results:

if you're the adventurous type, get the driver here:
AMD Catalyst 12.x (8.97 April 18) Unofficial BETA - Guru3D.com Forums

I installed this one straight over the earlier 8 960.0 BETA (March 15th)
it runs very smoothly - Skyrim and BF3 (in particular) run beautifully..

7*** series users, take note..

Thanks, I know humans perceive anything more than 24 FPS as a smooth motion, but dogs and birds I understand have to have a higher FPS.
I think hand drawn animation was done with 18 FPS and the early King Kong puppet movies were 12 or so.
there is the possibility I'm full of it too.

with Tv's being 60 hz 120hz 240hz it is the response time not frame rate the faster the hz the faster the tv will respond

Frames per second are noticable after 60 Because the speed will be almost to much for you to handle

I noticed when i played dead island it was going so fast i was like whoa i checked fraps i was hitting 270 frams per second you throw v sync on and it will be reduced but yeah higher frams are noticable
