SImple Overclock Question

I am wanting to update my bios before i overlock but i've never done this before... I have the guides on how to OC, just no specifics on how to properly update bios

Here is the link to my motherboard... i was hoping to see if ya'll could look at the list of BIOS files and tell me if they're incremental type of installations or what....

Thanks in advance.

No, they're not incremental. You should just install the latest version available.

Why do you want to update your BIOS? Is there a particular problem you are trying to solve?

What does updating the BIOS have to do with your desire to OC? The two are completely separate.

Are you having a problem that you need to update the bios?
My thoughts are don't update the bios unless you are having a problem and a bios update is designed to take care of that problem.

d/l and run the .exe

Only worth it if having issues or you want the UEFI BIOS.

ok so ill leave the BIOS alone... i wanted to overclocked and just be up to date as possible.. i just installed liquid cooling, etc.

What i would really like is a program that will simplify things for me. I was under the impression the "K" in 2600k meant unlocked and more userfriendly. lol

I have never used Gigabyte motherboard but most new boards designed for O/C come with a program for O/C. One must read and understand what setting does what. When I started to think O/C I did my homework and read all the information on O/C from this site and many O/C sites and my motherboard Forum site. Their is not tick here and change this and everything will be great program. Your wanting to update bios leads me to think you should think on doing a little more homework before starting into Over Clocking.

Thanks for your straightforwardness.

I indeed need to do more research. But my i7 is running perfectly fine. I think i will leave it as is until mine starts getting old, which wont be for awhile.

But as far as the motherboard being updated goes... maybe i'm OCD i just want everything to be as up to date as possible, no matter what. Obviously there are risks involved with updating the BIOS that make the small benefits not worth it unless something is broke.

Thanks for yall's input. I love the bits and pieces of info i get from this site.

Good call exit. You have lots of time to study things and tinker later if you get in the mood. I have overclocked my system many different ways many times and I don't notice the difference in actual everyday use other than the temps. You have a very nice system enjoy it.

I've already overclocked .... LMAO/

I started a new thread. Check it out here and let me know if you have any input

Temperature's are AWESOME btw...

And the guy at fry's ... the one who had to connect everything for me as well as do cable management for all my troubles... he PURPOSELY didn't connect the power to my H100 liquid cooler.... I was running stress test and monitored temps when i caught it.

I will be writing an official complaint on him by contacting corporate since he thinks sabotaging my very expensive CPU is a form of being professional.
