im a big video editor too so big audio setup helps too

Well, it's starting to look more like a computer. I finally found and installed the MOBO screws and installed the GPU card. I had to uninstall the fan power hub to get to the GPU card screws (more on that in a moment).

The back is a bit messier.



I ran into a snag while installing the GPU card this morning; I dropped a screw. I spent over an hour looking for the "darned thing" (I have better words to describe it but Mama told me not to use them), turning and shaking the case every which way imaginable in hopes it would fall out, and even playing CSI with the lights out and using a flashight to go every square inch of the case inch by inch. I've looked in every nook and cranny using a mirror. The screw would have to be forced pretty hard to go behind the MOBO and, even then, it wouldn't go far so I'm pretty sure it hasn't gone behind the MOBO. Just the same, I dug out my fiber optic inspection "camera" to get a somewhat better peek beneath the MOBO and around the CPU cooler beyond where I was already able to see and still didn't see the stupid little bugger. The only thing I can think of is it fell out while I was shaking and turning the case (which took the starch out of me since that case is seriously HEAVY! and I'm no kid anymore; my arms and back are killing me) but I didn't find it on the floor anywhere. I did have the news on TV on at the time and might not have heard it come out. I have no desire to tear everything down again; some of those cables are a real bugger to get at and route (mutter, mutter, mumble, mumble). Heck, I will have to pull out the top HDD and the rear case fan to get the MOBO out of the case.

Lady Fitzgerald, screws can fall in the darnedest places. I've had the same experience. I hope that is a dust cover over the PSU fan. That's where they usually end up when installed that way. That's why I install mine with the fan down. But, from looking at it, it seems you are doing a fantastic job. And, I do feel more 'at home' with a little mess. It just seems so natural for me. I have no earthly idea what you mean by the back of the case is messier. I won't even let my Wife look at the back of my case. In fact, if we lived closer, you could make a few extra bucks wiring my case. I usually only worry about the inside, without much concern for the back. But, I have to admit, I was looking at the back last night to try and figure out how to organize it better. I closed it up without doing anything. I built mine last weekend, and did as usual. I start getting tired and say the heck with it, just stick it somewhere and be finished. I am going to rewire it though. You're doing a fantastic job. Congratulations on a job well done. Keep up the great work. More pictures please. In fact, with more pictures, someone here may see that screw you're missing.

Thanks! You are so right about the PSU; been there, did it, and got cheated out of the T-shirt. Early on, while making up the cables, I dropped a PCI cover screw in the PSU. I wound up having to remove the PSU and it took half an hour of shsking and turn the PSU to get that *&^%$#@! screw out. Even then, I didn't see or hear the screw come out. It just stopped rattling and I found the screw on the floor. Ever since, I been keeping that magnetic dust filter on top to keep it from happening again. I had to mount the fan up because there isn't enough room underneath to get enough air for the PSU.

After the missing screw dropped, I didn't hear it bounce and never heard a rattle when I shook the case and worked it around. It's weird.

Thanks for the offer to wire your case but, after the "fun" I've been having, you wouldn't be able to afford me.

Them be the gremlins inside. They love messing with us and no doubt got a good belly laugh when they saw the silly human still shaking the PSU even after they had already placed the screw on the floor. The same thing happens when you drop a screw and find it in a place you didn't look because it defied physics where you ended up finding it. Gremlins love computers and get real giddy when they find a human silly enough to build one.

I finaly got some pennies together and bought a proper desk and chair instead of my coffee table and gaming chair. It's so nice to have loads of room but i'm struggling to get used to gaming sat up

Being part Irish, it's more likely I've got leprechauns rather than gremlins. Either that or the computer is puka and it ate the *&^%$#@! screw.

Ok, I'm feeling sick. I hooked up the power cord, the monitor, and the keyboard/mouse. When I turned it on, the computer didn't post and the fans would spin for a second, then stop, then spin the fans, then stop, and so on. I killed the PSU right away. There wasn't time for any error codes to pop up. Obviously, there is a short somewhere.

Ah, I've been after me wrong critters then since I'm also part Irish. I'll need an entirely different strategy then to fix what ails this dern machine.

This sounds exactly like what was happening to my rig when I built it and it turned out to need a bios update which it was supposed to already have. Not saying this is it but just one initial thought. I would un-install and re-install all connections to the mobo including the GPU, insert only one stick of ram and try again.

the errant screw may be lodged between mobo components LF, shorting it.

You may be right linnemeyerhere with some of the newer boards especially a BIOS update is necessary right out of the box.
