Software overclocks are often over volting hardware / in bios you can control the juice you pump into a chip
Software overclock to me isn't reliable either you have to set it each time or it just jumbles your settings into a mess
Say if you were using a Biostar board they have overclocking software built into the bios unlike others that you have to log on to windows to adjust it
I have a board like this and the option on that are more reliable then suit software tools
Besides that you have more control over your unit and it would benefit to learn how it actually works

Bios overclocks are not lost even when pc is restarted EXCEPT that is there any difference between software and bios overclock ????????????????????
I would say a software overclock would be useful if you are able to select your particular motherboard and mess around with the settings.. A universal software overclock I would think would be crap..
